my friend was telling me about how he "Pipe lined" his computer, and how everything runs faster, and it puts his computer on a"higher priority" and that i should do it to.

just want to check on your thoughts about this.

will it run safely?

would i be prone to more viruses?

dose it work?

should i trust this thing?

do you use it and trust it?

Pipelining means that you are processing more than one thing at a time at different stages of processing.

Think of a relay race:
The team without pipelining would run there and back one at a time.
The team using pipelining would run there and back in a line and finish first!

I believe that all modern processors use pipelining, so I am confused as to how you would pipeline a computer. If you could get your friend to tell you a little bit more of how he did this I would like to hear it.

Hardware architecture has used pipelining since the inception of Intel's Hyper-Threading processor. Software developers, however, quite recently started adding support for pipelining. (i.e. hardware had 16 lanes to play with, but the program only sends cars down 1 lane at a time.) I believe this is what your friend is referring to.

Software Pipelining is VERY TRICKY and can HOSE your machine if you make too many mistakes. Have your friend, who is obviously an expert, walk you through every step until you get more comfortable with the process.
