Army, Navy, Or Air Force?

I have a decision to make, when I become of age I was planning to join a branch of the Canadian forces because of the schooling and the experience you get out of serving your country. Any suggestions for which branch I should join. Please do not tell me to not go at all I dont want messages like that

EDIT: This thread is now ALMOST a year old and it is still on the front page of the off-topic area, I really appreciate all the insiht and opinions you have posted whether I agree or disagree with them. I want to thank all the people that were in the armed forces here today for risking your lives to go make sure we all could stay free without worry. You guys are what shape the country, you are what we rely on, and lastly you are what we think about when we watch you leave to go fight. I really respect that you all came back on eGO and SOME of you even old me your story which was an honor to be able to read.

i know people in the navy and airforce, they say you don't really do anything, but i donno they could be lying. : P
personally i would go with the army.

I dont know if the Canadian army has the same benefits, but my brother served in the US Army and got a full ride to any college (University for you guys) he wanted.

idk much of the canadian, but the US army is very beneficial. thats what i chose.

I wouldn't go army. They get sent out first and that's when the fighting is usually bad. Go Air Force or Navy. They have good benefits, just like all the branches, but you're in less danger as long as you don't get sent to the front lines. Army usually gets sent to the front.

I was a Master-at-Arms for 4 years in the US Navy, and we certainly did a lot, so whoever said they don't do anything was gravely misinformed . The decision's more of a personal one, really...as you can do a lot of the same type of work in each branch, but become more specialized in a field in some over the others. For example, if you want to work with aircraft...all 3 offer it to some degree, but the Air Force would offer more specialized training in the field.

The biggest thing is to look ahead to your future, after you get out of the military. What do you want to do at that point in your life? Then, look at what jobs each of the branches has to offer you, and choose one that will benefit your after-Military career and lifestyle. Then, just look across all three branches to see which one would offer you the best benefits (sign on bonuses and such) for choosing said job.

Well there are no marines,

However, here in the states I was a Marine. Spent alot of time on a ship though and did a westpac. I'd go Navy if I were you. You'll get a good education, plus just being out at sea, there's nothing like it. You travel more then in the army and unless someones targeting your ship, you're alot safer.

marines! but dont know about in canada so maybe army, i actually tried to get in us army to pursue some of the healthcare careers but i had a hearing problem in one of my ears so got rejected. im in healthcare now but think it would hve been great. most of the men in my family have served, not a waste of time, very valuable and needed, you should be proud regardless of which branch u choose but army probably has the most choices open to you. good luck

I don't know how the Canadian military works, but I know that if you are active duty Army or Air Force (donno about the other branches), that you have to request to go to school. If you're active duty, you're on duty 24/7. So you run the risk of being called in while in class, or being denied permission to attend school. Just because the benefits are there, doesn't mean you'll be able to take advantage of them. My suggestion is to join Army National Guard. If you're looking to join for benefits, then that'll be the best bet. Active duty is more or less for making a career, or occupying your time.

You cannot base the decision of what you want to do on the opinions of others. You're still very young, and have plenty of time to research and/or experience or think about it yourself. Do what YOU want to do. Who knows, maybe you won't even end up joining?

All I would say is, think carefully about it. Think carefully if you indeed want to go and then if you decide to, think carefully about which branch you pick. Don't rush ANY of it.
