Server Issues

[The IRS]

So on CS:S, I'll start it up, blah blah, and then I look for the servers, and quite frequently they are either
A) Not there, or
B) Not allowing me to even try to connect to them

It's not my internets, because I'm still connected to steam while it doesn't work, and I can see the server someone else is playing on, but only the IP, not the name or info.

First of all, if your not seeing them make sure your looking in the right section and your filtering settings are not blocking it. The same thing happens to me not allowing to connect. I have Comodo Firewall and that causes some issues on Steam, especially Vista.

Steam is really just a bad, horrible made, program.

Well, it's not the filtering settings, because many times EVERY server will appear, but it won't let me connect at all. I haven't had any problems with my antivirus, or firewall at all, and I've used the same programs for 2 years.

Are you using Vista or Win7?

Many times the permissions on the config.cfg file and other Steam/HL/Etc files prevent your program from reading favorites as well as player configs.

Have you tried using the "refresh" button? obvious i know, but it has yet to be determined and solve this a lot of the time
