Not sure if this is the right spot but...oh well.
Anyways i want to take a demo that i have recorded from CS:S and turn it into avi or something so i can upload it to youtube and share it with my buds :P Problem is that i dont know how to do the converting part. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks guys! Just got a few questions. Do i need to worry about the framerate or resolution for it? Also what format does this turn into?

The format is Valve Proprietary, I believe. It's known as a demo file and is suffixed by
Code:
.dem

There are NO programs out there to 'decode' or re-master .dem files in any way. The only way a .dem file can be read is through the Half-Life engine.

There are several other programs out there that will allow you to record in a plethora of formats. One of the most popular is Fraps. Using Fraps is quite easy, but does enter the concerns you mention above. Both framerate and resolution are key factors in the operation of fraps and will most likely affect game performance if your equipment is sub-par. Information about Fraps overhead and general questions may be found here.

Best of luck to you! If I can be of further assistance to you, don't hesitate to ask!

when you run the start movie command it will ask for the format and you dont need to worries aobut fps because it renders it one frame at a time so there is never and fps lagg with this method

i belive there is a valve wiki on this around somewhere that shows how to set the framerate for the output and what not but i cant rember where it is off hand

Very useful link, thanks for that and all the info. I will let you know how it goes and if I have any other questions. Just need to get off work First :chair:

your welcome fraps is esiser to use but the quilty is much better with the method i mentioned

and the cool thing about the method i showed you is that say your computer cant handle the game with maxed out setting with a good fps it wont matter it will just take longer to render but the final vid will have a perfect fps with no lagg
