Anyone know Netgear routers?

A long time ago, I was tired of the thought of other tenants connecting via my wireless router, so someone walked me though how to limit its wireless-ness. Now, I want to un-limit it but I have no clue what I am doing! Can someone help? ;.;

Do you recall how it was limited? I'm assuming if you didn't want other tenants connecting, it is either password protected and/or MAC address filtered.

How do you want it un-limited? Do you want to be able to connect other computers to the wireless? What do you want to do with it?

Well if you can get into the web page for it you can change the settings. I wouldn't try using the CLI if you dont know what your doing. If you dont kow the password it has a reset button which will return it to factory defaults (wide open), best to lock it back down after that. Netgears website will have all the instructions you need if you can't find the original docs.

If only allowing certain MAC addresses you can add more.

If using WEP or any other encryption can change it.

Things to have prepared:

The Media Access Control (MAC) Addresses of each device you want to connect.
--------Usually in 12:34:56:78:90:ab format -OR- 1234.5678.90ab for Cisco-class equipment------

Your public IP address: You may find this by directly connecting your computer to your Internet modem, and locating your IP address;

-->START-->Run-->cmd-->ipconfig /all Your IPv4 address should be formatted xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx with each "xxx" set being a binary octet long. (0-255)

There are many other methods, but this will allow us to connect to you easily. If you're having trouble with finding your addresses, connect to us and we can walk you through each step. (Things like your pub IP address can be snagged outta thin air on our end.)

I can get into my router fine but a long while ago, someone helped me limit wireless connectivity. Not with a password, though.

I know it is still in effect because my friend can sit on my futon, 4 feet away from my router, and not get a signal, or a very weak one.

Well, I remember how I locked mine:

On the bottom of your router should be a 192.something IP address.
Enter this address into your web browser, prefaced by "http://"

It should take you to a page where you can change your settings, but you may need a password to access it.

All I know is that there was an option to turn off wireless broadcasting..or something. Since NOTHING I had was using the wireless, I turned it off..but I can't find it to turn it back on.

Well according to Netgear's website.....

Select WIRELESS SETTINGS under ADVANCED in the MAIN MENU
ENABLE WIRELESS RADIO
ENABLE SSID BROADCAST (this is the on that you need to turn on in order for new devices to see your wireless network)

It was the radio thing. XP
