i have a gateway monitor: model # lp2417
ive come to notice that my computer tower will work on other peoples monitors playing my gams easily, and all my cords are fine, as they work also with other peoples computers to when i tested it.

when i took it to the shop it worked just fine and tf2 started up no problems or anything. no crashes. no bad pop ups on video card fail. what is going on??

im stumped on what to do at this point. :scared:
any help at all will help me sooo much:crying:

uhm the first thing that comes to my head is are your drivers up to date?
that might be the problem.

yup everything is maxed out man
im still getting crashes when im playing at home

i took it to the repair guy
he plugged it in and it worked just fine and dandy for him, he opend up all my games and they worked. but when i bring it home still i got the problem with the display.
are gateway monitors bad to play with?

my last resort is to call geek squad or something. hopefully i can get the help here

all games
it will go to the main screen then it loads all the way.. then crashes before i see anything and goes to blue screen ON ALL GAMES

If I understand it right, you said you took the monitor and PC to the repair guy, who plugged them both in (or at separate times) and everything ran fine. If that's correct, and the PC itself is then in good shape, look at your power cables/connections. If you're using a power strip or anything similar, it may be going bad on you and that can cause blue screen/crashes. The key is does the error come on after a certain amount of time or ONLY when you boot up games. It's important because the first can be a heating issue, whereas the second, and correct me if I'm wrong, can be either a heating issue or power supply issue.

first off i only took the tower,
when i get into tf2 i see the main screen
i connect to the server and a loading screen pops up. then when it finishes loading it crashes to a blue screen

Hmm... Try using a different monitor with the tower at home and see if that'll load up fine? You gotta try to isolate some of the variables- using different monitor, uninstall/reinstall game, try using a different wall outlet and/or power strip to power the computer...

ive did the whole game thingy
il try the wall outlet and see where that goes, i duno if itl make a diffrence and the monitor is what i was asking myself if it was the problem

I doubt a monitor would cause a blue screen. 99% of the time, blue screens are from driver related issues. I would suggest updating your bios, and all drivers (including graphics. reload them if they are newest just for hell of it). If that doesn't work, try receding your graphics card.

Shot in the Dark

I've skimmed through this thread and wonder if you've tried Gateway Support / Drivers Page? They seem to want a serial number (which you haven't and maybe shouldn't post) to help select downloads.

I hate to steer you away from this forum, but take a look around there and let me know if something tweaks your 'solution-switch'.

As far as drivers go for monitors....YES, there are drivers for EVERY monitor. The majority, however, are perfectly happy with Windows' default drivers. In many years of computer service, I have only had 1 issue that was related to monitor drivers. You may very well be the second I have heard of. Better safe than sorry.

You are correct in thinking that, usually, drivers cause BSODs. Just don't forget that any attachment to your motherboard that Windows directly controls or sends information through has some form of driver. Yes, even your monitor.

Again, just a shot in the dark.

If you'd like to try, I found an "update" to Windows plug-N-play driver base that you may want to try. It's found on Gateway's Site. You can also take a swing at Gateway's Auto-Update / Search software.

--==(ABSOLUTE WORST-CASE SCENARIO)==--
I would recommend backing-up any sensitive files, as this may hose your video card's driver base.

It's a <1% chance but, I would be remiss in my duty as a Tech if I didn't at least warn you.
Most likely it will work, or it will fail. Either way, you will not cause physical harm to your devices.

I'm sorry that I can't be of more help, but I am still unsure of the specifics of your monitor. There seems to be some discrepancy on Gateway's site as to whether the LP2417 monitor exists. They also don't seem to like your serial number.

I can tell you that other people have experienced similar problems. Some people had even speculated that it was a DirectX and plug-N-play driver hiccup. Nothing definitive, but I'll be happy to keep looking.
