my video card drivers messed up recently and i unistalled and reinstalled the drivers. but ever since i get a message everytime i turn on my computer telling me my D: Drive is running out of space and to free up space. But my D Driver is my Recovery drive (HP). It has 70.5MB of free space and 5.61GB of totalspace. I tried using the disk cleanup but there is nothing really to cleanup, nothing in trash bin or etc. I have already cancelled system restore, what can i do to stop this message from coming up everytime?

I just went to disk defragment and noticed the D Drive says 5.62GB Capacity and 70MB of free space, 1% of free space. When i open the drive there are only 2 files in there a "recovery" folder (271KB) and "user" file (18KB), what am i missing? I shouldn't delete anything should i?

Windows XP Disk Space Warning Removal

* Run the Registry Editor.

Start --> Run --> regedit

-OR-

Start --> Run --> Regedit.exe

* Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Policies\ Explorer\

registry01.jpg

* Create a DWORD value and call it NoLowDiskSpaceChecks.

* Double-click on NoLowDiskSpaceChecks, and enter the value 1, and press OK.

* It should look like this when done:

* Restart your computer

This will disable disk space checking for all of your drives. There are other methods, but this is the most final.

Additional information: Your recovery drive is only a partition of your original hard drive. You can modify the partition information to allow for more disk space. I would not, however, recommend doing this as it will limit the amount of usable space on your primary drive.

I hope you find this helpful! Please let me know if I can be of further assistance!

I think it is time you invest in a larger/more hard drive/drives

ive had this computer since 2006 (i believe) and i never put anything on the D drive, that message has never come up. there is nothing being put into that drive, so why is that message coming up?

Because the D drive is not a physical drive -- it is a partition of your main drive. Files are automatically put on it for recovery purposes.

the partition is a recovery partition HP puts on the hard drives to revert the computer back to its original state. which would not add any additional files because it is not a system restore point. am i correct?

First off, system restore most likely has nothing to do with that drive.
Secondly, you have nothing to worry about. We can't really tell you why you're suddenly getting this error, but it doesn't really matter. It's a recovery partition. The fact that is is short on space will not "mess your computer up" or affect you in any way other than that annoying error message.

If you really want/need to see what's on the drive, try turning "Show hidden files" and "Show system files" on. I haven't used XP in so long I can't remember how to do this offhand, but someone else could point you in the right direction.

thanks, just hearing someone tell me that instead of trying to convince myself makes me feel better

ya i think it contains a disk image of how the computer was when you bought it so it will never get any bigger or smaller so your safe to leave it alone and you can do the reghack that was showen earlier in this topic if the error bothers you that much.

but i have never had to deal with this on any of my computers because i have always have built my computers my self.
