I have N520 Cooler Master heatsink that was 30$ on sale so I opted for that and left my 920 @ 3.6Ghz. I see plenty of performance gain from 2.66 to 3.6 than 3.6 to 4.0. Also my only goal for OC'ing was to push it 1Ghz over the stock speeds. If I wanted 4.0 I would have done it already, I knew it was capable but I need threads not speed for mapping. The speed is for gaming which runs all of my games fine (No I do play more than Source, Aion, such as CoD MW1/2, W@W, L4D/2, Far Cry 2, Fallout 3, Mass Effect, and others) Granted they do use multiple cores but not the threads per se as the Source Compiler for maps does.

what board are you running and what is your settings @ 3.6 ? I cannot get my q6600 to post @ 3.6 on my 680i a1.

Im using an old Asus P5k Pro board......i might upgrade soon to a higher-end one from a friend probably like one of the Asus rampage series.

Well, im using an OCZ Vendetta 2 on my Q6600 and my VCore in bios is like 1.45?? around that maybe less. The other settings are tweaked a little but mostly left alone. I have a Q6600 G0 stepping and i can easily go higher but temps aren't so friendly so i don't. I was running 3.73ghz 24/7 at one point but realized it wasn't worth it so i toned it down to 3.6 24/7

That build is for speed and gaming ability. If you'd like to pear-down some performance, I can get you 6TB of space.

Definitely.....the 920 easily overclocks to 4.0ghz with something like a Prolimatech Megahalem.
And for GPU's, just get a single 5970 if you want ultimate performance otherwise i guess those 2x5770 will be fine.

Get the Xigmatek DK or the CoolerMaster V8, for pricing they're both pretty low and some of the better coolers on the market. If price isn't to much of a option then watercool or a Megahalem/Thermalright cooler. Best aircoolers on the market.
You might want to save on graphics cards, just for now recycle some older ones. Nvidia has Fermi coming around Jan-Feb and ATI is expected to give some large shipments for 58xx series cards. With Fermi coming out, ATI will at least drop their prices even if Nvidia doesn't have anything much to offer.
