PC stuck in perma-bluescreen at bootup

Hey folks,
Sooo I logged onto my computer yesterday and found there was a ridiculous program called Personal-Guard-2009 that I didn't install. Odd, since I have so much security running... only to find someone or something had disabled my firewall. So I run some virus scans, sweet, it's not going away, uninstall, not working, oh hey there's a guide online that tells me how to manually delete the program, BALETED... eh? What's this? It's opened a doorway to about a dozen trojans wanting to eat mah poor PC? OH SNAP-- yeah I'm boned.

So yeah, I went to restart my computer after I desperately tried to install Trend Micro's antivirus program - which, mind you, was almost impossible to get -- I couldn't access most sites I logged onto because these trojans automatically redirected me to faulty, fraudulent websites advertising SUPER AWESOME PROGRAMS that I didn't want/need. Anyways, so the darn thang won't even restart, so I had to press the POWER BUTTON OF DOOOOOM and.. oh cool I can't start up my PC, it immediately BSODs past bootup.

My brother and I both worked our voodoo PC magic, from safe mode (bluescreen), even tried a reset to factory defaults (bluescreen) and booting with the OS reinstall discs in my disc drive (bluescreen), to no avail (BLUESCREEEEEEEEEN!?).

All I can think of that I physically downloaded in the past few MONTHS that could have been viral are some CS:Source skins on FPSBanana that my computer warned me about (and I ignored like a GENIUS - go me!), otherwise it's a brand new computer (~2 years old) that I absolutely strive to keep clean -- otherwise my dad would be super-ticked as he spent almost a thousand dollars on my custom Dell. And yes, I know, OH GOD DELL WRY but I didn't have a choice in it, or I'd have built it myself. ;(

I was thinking maybe I have bad memory stick(s) and/or maybe the Trojans nuked my harddrive. Any chance of a fix?

If you need more info, please let me know!

Specs:
Standard Dell XPS 300(?) mobo
3GB Corsair DDR2
Core 2 Duo E6600
9800GT
XP 32-bit Media Center

exactly how far can you boot? and can you access the BIOS?

as far as a possible bad memory module, get memtest86, put it on a flash drive, and boot up with that to check your RAM for issues. Try to rules out as much as you can.

the next step would be to test your HDD in another computer, so in the occasion you do need to reformat, you can rule out a hardware issue so you dont lose information for nothing.

I can access the BIOS, but the furthest I can boot is to the window where I have access to system configuration, safe mode, and other boot options/modes. If I boot into safe/normal mode, I still bluescreen.

ATM my brother is shuffling the memory as I am pretty sure one or both of my 512s are bad -- I used to bluescreen a LOT when I only had 512x2 sticks in the mobo. Memory-related errors.

I'll probably test the HDD last -- I'd need this computer, which is my brother's, and he may not be willing. ;(

Dell usually includes a warranty on there PC's.. has yours expired?

I think so, plus I modified it myself by opening the case and replacing some parts (which I believe voids the warranty). I'll have to doublecheck the former with my dad when he's available, then call Dell if it's still under warranty. Hopefully they won't notice I replaced some of the internals... lol.

What you need to do is use a linux boot disk and test your memory and other hardware. I use Hiren's Boot Disk for most issues like the one you're having. You can also repair damage to your hard drive caused by virii. I can provide you with a temporary copy if you wish, but cannot post the link in open-forum. You're more than welcome to PM me if you would like to use this route.

I hope this helps you! Let me know if there's anything else I can do for ya!

I tried the Linux boot method -- even with, it bluescreens before I can even load up Linux OR Windows. I'd PM you but I don't wanna waste your resources! I really appreciate the offer, though.

Turns out I'm grabbing a custom tower from CyberPower (look at the time, I've made a rhyme!) with my Christmas money though. Woo!

If you don't want your old computer I'll take it ;).

Also on a side note, the blue screen is a windows thing, so make sure you have your BIOS set to boot from CD. If it's truly booting from CD it shouldn't be loading anything from windows so you shouldn't get a BSOD.

How much you offerin'? LOL

My brother futzed with it earlier, so he may or may not have tried that. I'll find out for y'all, see if that helps any!

edit: Yup, he set it up exactly as you decribed and somehow it is STILL bluescreening whenever we get past the black bootup screen. We can't proceed to boot from CD for a wipe/reformat/ANYTHING.

Just for troubleshooting purposes, go into your BIOS and disable your hard drives. It's possible that your boot CD just isn't working or did not burn correctly. If you go to boot and nothing happens then your boot CD isn't working.

And if it's still blue screening with your hard drives disabled, then we need to get you an exorcist.

PS if you're serious about selling it give me a price I may be interested in using it as a server.
