New computer

hrm not sure if i can, will try to get some on my GFs phone. and i completely forgot i can use an am3 chip in am2+ if i wanted to, so i could still get 955/965 but it'll be a waste of cash, might as well get 940 and just OC in that case. anywho ya a pic would be sweet i'll try to get some once i get my 5850

i have a really good feeling ur going to bottleneck the 5850 with just a dual-core......its a like 50% chance i think though. It also depends what game.

Yes technically the only difference between 940 and 955/965 is clock speed, HT speed, socket, and thats about it....plus the 955/965 are listed as no L1 cache(idk y tho).
The difference between 955 and 965 is just clock speed.

But the main thing is, the 965 is almost guaranteed to be the better chip for overclocking and etc. compared to the others because they're chosen to run at higher speeds and all that (don't really wanna get into all that but if you get my drift you will understand) also the Black Edition have unlocked multipliers if im not mistaken and will let you overclock a lot easier and better than the 940.....i do realize the 955 is a black edition now.

If you can save a ton of money, go for the 955...as of now its like $20 cheaper than the 965 i think.

after looking at it more.....i would put 940 out of the question and mainly look at just the 955/965, honestly...you can't go wrong with either option if your going to overclock it, especially at high clock speeds, they are basically the same.

As of ram, funny thing is that DDR2 jumped in prices like a mother and DDR3 is dropping somewhat.....basically, DDR3 is now cheaper than DDR2 from what i can see on newegg and its ridiculous

well the 940 is a black edition as well, and i should easily be able to hit 3.6 ghz but yes i understand that the 955-965 will be able to OC higher. maybe i will just get the 955 tho, should be able to hit 3.8 ghz with that guy even on air. for now tho i am just going to stay with my am2+ because even if ddr3 is relatively the same price as ddr2, i won't need to get ram right away like i will if i get an am3 board. i guess it would be best to get the 955/965 tho for when i want to swap over to an am3 board and use the full potential of the cpu. i don't want to get myself stuck in a situation where i cannot upgrade motherboards without upgrading cpus.
so am2+ for now, 955 BE now, 5850 now, same ram now, am3 later, ddr3 later.

and im not sure if this dual core would bottleneck the 5850. it would be more based on a game by game scenario, which is really cpu dependent or not

yea didn't realize 940 was BE......they are all BE because AMD came out with them one after another and they were all the top end cpu at the time of release lol

The 5850 will beast either way.....beats a GTX 285 :P

RAWR! Don't skimp on your PSU, because when your PSU fails it tends to take out other parts in a swath of destruction with it.

Try that, great reviews and a bit pricey, but right now you get a 20 dollar gift card (which you can use to other parts) so it's only around 180.

And get a full tower, it leaves plenty of room for whatever you want to throw in and you'll get better airflow to boot (on most cases, some are just fail).

And finally, for CPU cooler, throw this in for sexiness

this is why i said the other parts were basically non negotiable, because i already have them. i have my case (which i love) and i have my PSU (which i love again). only parts i haven't decided on is the cpu/cpu cooler (if needed).
that looks like an interesting cpu cooler however. cept it will turn one of my exhaust fans into an intake, but maybe i could hook it up to one of my side panel intake fans. taking off the side panel would be a little tricky tho. on reviews it also has a high idle temp, but good cooling under load. i'll keep it mind, thanks

ehh its alrite........it doesn't compare to high end cooling. But yea you have the problem of space so it might be hard to find a good CPU air-cooler. This isn't a bad option though, its a bit pricey but its not bad. I would opt for a mid-end air cooler though, they tend to be on par or the same. The all in one water-kits don't perform amazing, problem is mostly due to the radiator and such as its not as large or high end as the ones you buy separate like swiftech.
In all, the corsair only performs about the same as a mid-end air cooler but costs the same as a high end air cooler but doesn't really come near to the high end cpu coolers.

ya, im looking up some low profile coolers and there are a lot of options out there. zalman has a bunch as well as scythe. So i'll just make note what my local shop has
