Guys, I'm about to buy a laptop soon. Maybe like Thanksgiving.
This brand is Toshiba. Is this ok for gaming and stuff?

By my hearing is that laptops are not as good for gaming (lag and stuff) Thats why i decided to get a good comp for only like 500 which is still good as a $500 laptop is not that good...

first thing first, that 1.6 is not going to cut it and you are going to be sadly displeased with your performance. I bought my laptop in 2003 and it pushes 1.8ghz with 2mb of ram.

clearly there is a cost barrier that u don't want to break.. but listen:

Your core2 is good for 2 things: Multitasking and processing. And they are not the same thing. First off, if you can, you might want to bump up your L2 cache for sure, the more the better. Next, for sure for sure for sure find a better FSB, even if you don't get better L2 or processor. The reason why your processor will let you down is because the market of software is not yet totally caught up to multi-cores.

Yes, if you have a program that can use multi-threading then snatch up that core2 1.6, but the thing is i bet money most of the programs you use will not offer multi-thread. This means that yea you have 2 cores that can work at 1.6, but lots of programs will never utilize that second core.

Core 2 is a huge craze right now. And for multi-tasking it is great. Windows (XP or Vista) uses those cores very well. You can have many many system processes going at once, and juggle them well with your 2gb ram with 2mb+ L2 cache.

But you may seriously want to buy a better core2, or, save yourself the money and get a sick single core. I'm not sure how high single cores can go, but you may want to invest in something like 1x2.6ghz instead of 2x1.6ghz.

also, your vid card - im not sure if this laptop is replacing the laptop u use now, the pc u use now, or it is additional to the PC u have. but that 256mb card won't carry you very far as far as DOD:S, TF2, etc. It will handle everything windows has to throw at it fine, but games.. this laptop does not sound like what u want for gaming. Maybe it is considered a light media laptop (and by light, not weight, especially since you're already over 9lbs not including lugging around the AC adapter).

Honestly dude, Toshiba makes some killer laptops, you may want to look for a higher price range that will offer way better performance (bang for buck). Check out the Qosmio series. Also, you may want to check out XPS series by Dell. But from what i hear Dell offers horrible customer support.

Last thing. the best thing, and i mean BEST thing i can suggest is that whatever you get, get a good warranty. It doesn't matter how sick your laptop specs are for how cheap dude, if you get a crap warranty you will pay for it thrice fold. If they offer 2 standard included in price, then opt to add that 3rd and even 4th year. The life of laptops is short, and when the warranty goes, usually so does the machinery. And when it does, it gets expensive. If you get 4 years i guarantee it will die out by 3.5 or so.. and it gets expensive as whoa to replace the mobo and fans and whatnot.

and if u opt not for 3 or 4 years then make sure they have 24/7 tech support and that you can get free on site tech service.


in summation bro, it's a great looking piece of machine. but there are much better out there, with lighter weight.
