frightening computer screen thing

So I plugged in my external harddrive for the first time in while today. When i plugged it in, my start bar flushed orange for a second, and the top of my internet browser flickered. I recently was hit by many viruses, but I believe they were removed. I hadn't plugged in my external since before the attack. I cancelled the backup just in case. What I want to know is if the orange bar thing is normal, or if I should be really worried.

EDIT. I removed it and then replugged it in, and nothing exciting happened. Should I still be worried?

Scan your external HD for viruses and malware also just to be safe. Sounds like a video error to me though.

Agreed.

Screen damage and video card damage of that magnitude would be permanent. Temporary issues are most likely caused by a software or even power supply glitch. If it occurs again, please let us know!
