Well, I'm looking to upgrade, but I want to know what you guys think I should upgrade for sure, I have some ideas, but I'd like you guy's input as well.

Gigabyte EP45-UD3P (CrossFire Capable)
Core 2 Quad Q6600@stock
4GBs of DDR2-1000
ATi Radeon 4830
Rosewill PSU
CoolerMaster 690
500 GB HD.


Propose any upgrades you want, I'll consider anything.
 
Really all that is holding you back is your graphics card. You have a quad core, 4 gb DDR ram and a decently sized HDD, so it seems you should just upgrade your video card.

Depending on if you want Nvidia or ATi there are a few selections you could choose from.
 
What's the power on your PSU? You could OC your CPU. I've got the same one running at 3.0GHz @ 23C idle. You could probably do an OC on that RAM as well. I'd say if you want to upgrade something, upgrade your GPU to a 5 series ATI and probably get another HDD. 500GB can be a little small.
 
I'd like to keep any upgrade under $300. I'm thinking of getting a 5770? Would that be a good idea? I'd also like to get a new PSU, considering mine currently doesn't have enough amps on the 12V rail.
 
lol man i wonder what people toss onto their HDDs sometimes, i only have 30 GB used....seriously.
but anywho ya you could definitely overclock your CPU to whatever you want, 3.5 ghz+ and get an aftermarket cooler if you wanted for it, just to tinker around. also get a new graphics card, don't see any reason to get anything else unless you really want bragging rights.

how many amps does yours have right now? and if you could, since you're already near the price range a 5850 would be much better than a 5770. if you wanted to go for a 5770 i'd just drop a 5750 in there and do a nice OC, allowing more money for a better PSU if needed also.
from what i see from the benchmarks, the 5770 and 5870 are not worth the price difference from their lower counterpart performance wise.

The Q6600 is a great CPU and one of the best OC'ers. Your Mobo is fine, P45 is a great chipset. I would just upgrade your GPU.

PS: If your going to OC, Get the ThermalRight Ultra Extreme 120 (TRUE). Then just get a decent 120mm fan or even 2 if you like.

Oh I will install my TRUE CPU cooler soon too. I'm sure that's a suffiecient cooler right?
 
The reason I haven't installed it yet is the backplate. I just haven't felt like taking out the motherboard to put in the backplate.
 
If you need both a GPU and PSU... I doubt you NEED 1000 watts and will be spending $$$ there you could move over to your GPU... what I would do (if ordering from Newegg):

PSU: OCZ StealthXStrem 700W (I actually use this one in my rig... my server runs the 600W version as does my wife's computer and my brother in laws)

$180... all said you spend $260 and will get $20 back by mail (but be QUICK on the rebate... OCZ gives silly short time to get it in the mail). Leaving you with $60 to buy soda and chips to eat while you kill me.

The 1000 watt listed in a previous post is a good deal.... but it is definitely OVERKILL and will not be running in its more efficient power level with your computer... that big of a PSU is meant for multiple video cards and more demanding systems...

ya that type of PSU is meant for multiple GPUs etc except it doesn't have the cabling to even accomodate that
 
all you need is a better graphics card and maybe overclock your CPU.

I also have the Q6600 but im running mine @ 3.6ghz :) can go higher with better cooling but it's not worth it.

Get like a 5850/5870 or something and you will be set for a while. 5970 if you have the money and you will be future-proof definitely.

nvm your budget is $300.......save up like $20 more dollars and get a 5850, its definitely worth the money....faster than a GTX 285
