Recently, I've been experiencing a random black screen whilst loading an assortment of steam games. It happens in both Garry's Mod, and INS, which are the games I play the most, so I assume this happens in all source based games.
Basically, when I open the game, and it's loading the main menu the screen with go black, and give me no error message or anything. I then am force to minimize my game, and re-open it, which then it will display the main menu. So the menu loads just fine, it just doesn't display.
In garry's mod not only does this happen when I am opening the main menu, when starting the game, but it also happens when I am joining a server, or loading single player, sometimes the screen comes back while it's loading, and other times, I will have a buffer-overflow error, or some other common garry's mod error, and since the black screen is blocking all activity, I have no idea, and sit there like and idiot waiting for the black screen to go away.
I think I can click on the main menu, since I can hear sounds from it, if it finishes behind the blackness.
I already updated my drivers to attempt to combat this, and it didn't seem to help. The problem is more of an annoyance than an issue
My specs are:
Windows XP Professional 32-bit
Radeon HD 4850
4-gig of RAM
q9400 Processor
(If you need any more specs tell me, I have to go now though. I don't think it's related to specs though, since this didn't happen before.)
