Steam has worked without a problem on my computer since it came out, however, I am now experience massive lag spikes and stoppages, but when I have my system monitor up, it shows the cpu and RAM at normal levels. However, I cannot do anything for a few minutes, my ventrilo ping spikes from 18 to 3000, and I need to close out of steam to stop it.

I have not downloaded or done anything to my steam folder, except download Eve, which I already had in nonsteam version, before the problems started. I went to start up CSS and it said my files were incompatible or something along those lines and they would redownload from the steam servers. Since getting that message, steam causes extreme lag and slowdowns on my computer.

Any help?

it sounds like steam is having issues getting through some type of firewall.

I have the same issue when I am overseas. I am usually behind a company firewall called websense. This causes me rediculous amounts of lag, even on fiber connections.

Also, if you are running through a modem or router, try connecting straight from your computer to the wall if you can. Maybe your NAT settings are messed up.
