Hopefully Newegg gets enough 8800GTs to satisfy everyone who wants one by Saturday night. Earlier, I saw 8800GT available on Newegg and they were all gone in 10 minutes lol

I just wish I had $4,000 + to spend on a PC. WOW!!! That will be an awesome computer though.

One question, why are you getting 4 320GB Hard Drives? Isn't that a little insane??

How much are they gonna hit you for shipping on all of that? WOW!!
 
hrmmm as long as i was already spending that much money id go ahead and bump your RAM up to 4 GB im running 2 GB of ddr2 and im ready to go 4 myself and maybe a smaller HDD to actually run as your primary your seek times will be better or should anyways i syggest no more than a 80 GB then use the 320 as a storage drive other than that seems like you have things well in hand :D nice rig by the way and im a tech meself
 
Fairly good - but a few things out of balance.
First - let's take the price of the monitors, speakers, and periphrals away and just talk about the tower itself. I could build a PC that would bench within 5-10% of that machine for half the price. If paying twice as much for small increases doesnt bother you then you might as well stop reading.

However, the situation can be remedied - by either spending less or more your choice.

$4,000 is alot, so I am only scrutinizing so much because of the type of system being built, where every last piece matters.

Leaving my personal preference against Asus out of it, i'm sure you did your research and found its the best bench motherboard. <--- I assert that I dont have to check this.

Let me just say that you are the only perosn I know who can drop about $3,500 on a tower and not end up with a quad core. congradulations - oh wait, I mean oops.

As already mentioned, you do not have enough RAM. In theory your procesor and videocard could be bottlenecked by your RAM, although only under memory intensive tasks.

You are clearly shooting for the best computer ever - and yet, you are going to use the slower IDE Hard drives? ATA 100 instead of SATA 2? ....and...... bottleneck.

Also, you are going to have SLI glory which will then be displayed onto a monitor with 8ms responce time? Infact you may never notice it, that would be up to your own eyes, but if you want to see the glory that is > 125 FPS you cant do it with this monitor. You may want to get 5ms or 2ms - but at the same time if you wouldnt notice (as most none gamers cant notice anything past 72 ish) then you are doing the right thing by saving money here. btw incase you are wondering... 1 / responce time = Hz which is similar to FPS (kinda).

Ahh yes - and with this 4,000 dollar beast you put it... a $35 burner. Now, I'm sure its a great burner, maybe it will never coaster, it could even have a nice family too, but it seems much like having an 8trac in your porscha. Have you ever looked into Plextor? I will never own anything else untill they go out of busines or I die. I dont use the great features all the time - but when I do, it is worth it.

That is all for the specific nit picking, overall the machine will play well - but you are definately spending too much money for this performance level. For that much money and a little bit more clever shopping - you can have a machine much faster than the one configured above.




And Darth Tater - the reaosn one would have so many HDD is for RAID 5. I have it and I <3 it.

1. CASE:
Your case is uber expensive. If you were going to go on the expensive sides of cases I would go with the Antec 900 before any other case. The cooling is AWESOME, looks very sleek and is reviewed as one of the most popular and best cases in general all over the internet.

2. MOMBO:
EVGA 680i is the better mb in my opinion. I have known numerous people who have used this and it works great. Has SLI in case you move to that. The EVGA model is a lot cheaper as well as more reliable in my opinion. It supports everything the same except has 2 less USB ports but who the hell needs 6 usb ports?

3. GFX CARD:
If you want to spend 500+ on a card I would said for a month or two. When the new 8800GTS’s come out they will own the 8800 GTX in all ways possible for most likely a cheaper price. The 8800GTX’s are also very hot. The new GTS’s will be a lot cooler and smaller. Take that into consideration
4. PSU
I really do not think you need a 1000W power supply. Although the Antec Quarto is a GREAT psu don’t get me wrong, I just believe the Corsair 750TX will suit you a lot better and save you a lot of money.

5. CPU
If you’re going to go balls out like you are as greenmonkey said go Quad core dude.
6. RAM
I have the same ram in my computer and it works awesome. In your case of going all out though I would get another set of the ballistix’s. So instead of getting one pair for $104, buy two pairts for $208 =].
7. HD
Do not get 4 320gb hd’s. Get a terabyte if you’re going to go that crazy. I would get a terabyte or 750gb HD and then a 75gb Raptor drive for your O/S.

8. CD Drive
I would go with this. Cheaper and more reliable but this comes down to your opinion.

9. CPU Cooler
In every single review I have ever looked at, Zalman always comes through with the best products. I would go with this. And just as effective!

good point on the thermal cooler.

I had very similar thoughts to you m3dley, but I didnt say some f them because they are personal preference. Such as the case - a case says alot, its all about personal preference.
I also was about to say somehting about the 1000W PSU however, again maybe he wants to not have to upgrade it later - and who knows what SLI cards will need by that time. Personal prefernece.

However, I disagree with you on the Hard drive aspect. If he gets a terabyte hard drive and it dies he is (cant say the word on the forums). I strongly believe that getting 4 hard drives is the way to go, and he can either put then in raid 0+1, or raid 5, or 3 in raid 5 and 1 outside. Using raid with redundancy (as well as speed increases) is both awsome, and necessary in a machine that costs this much.

Zalman does have the world famus coolers however, most cooleres are better than stock and I find it again comming down to personal preference.

As far as the eVGA motherboard - yikes, I absolutely will neevr own another Asus product after RMAing mine 4 times, and having everyone I know do tha same (even with video cards and other devices) - HOWEVER, I still respect other people's love for asus because when you get a product that works (50/50 chance) then their products do almost always win benchmarks each year for the top spots. Whereas, I dislike eVGA videocards, and wouldnt consitter buying a mothebroard form them just liek I wouldnt by a television made my Ford Motoer Company. It is just not what they were created to make. (This is why sony stuff is also crap, they make one of everything..... although I <3 sony walkmans and minidisk players).

ok so </rant> now that that is done what I was trying to say was that the decision for motherboard would b tough (between those two) - i would lean toward eVGA but would need benchmarks.
 
Yea i just fixed my post about the hd's. I didn't fully read your post about the raid and all. I never got into looking up what it all does haha. But yea overall good point. Good luck with the build armed it will for sure pwn all of ours! haha
 
I'm wondering...do I need to apply thermal paste on the video card?
 
definately not. They come with heatsinks already on.
You only need thermal paste when replacing a stock heatsink with a new one. If you buy a retail processor you will not need thermal paste or a heatsink as retail processors come wtth both.

I also noticed that you changed your cart - a much better setup. Although I think raid (any with redundency) is something to look into. Just curious, why did you decide to go with the 8800GT instead of what you had Money? or why not the 8800GTS. Just curious. Everything else looks good.

I noticed you switched to vista, now 2GB is necessary and you might consitter getting 4GB for better performance. If you switch back to XP then 2GB will be fine. (keep in mind that Vista itself uses about a gig by itself, leaving only 1 GB free for games).

And m3d3ly, my computers usually have 10USB and I frequently use 5-8 of them. :p
 
Because, the 8800GT is better than the GTS. Its like, the mother of all bang for your buck cards right now. It can be overclocked the GTX speeds. There's so much good things about the GT that I can't think of right now. And I said I posted the wrong link lol

I like the new motherboard you got. P35's are really legit.
You will love the GT. They friggen pwn anything out right now.

Everything else looks fine. That 2gb of ram will run vista perfectly. Not laggy one bit but as green said i would go with 4 just to give it more kick ;)
