Yesterday, I was looking at this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134 .

I decided I wanted it because my CPU temps idle at 50C and load at 64C.

I had 20$. It costs 35. I figure I'll save up 'ti lI eventually can get it. I get home today and I got $20 from a Christmas Card in the mail from someone I've actually never seen before (My mom knows her though) which I am thankful for since I NEVER get x-mas gifts.

Anyways, I just put the money on a pre-paid credit card and bought the CPU cooler. I hope it fits(My MB: http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=k10n78m).

After I bought it I decided to check my CPU temps, and guess what I see...

64C... and I'm NOT gaming. I JUST started up the PC ... I get SO pissed off and have no idea why in the name of the law of physics it's that hot. I have done NOTHING to my CPU fan.

I'm pretty speechless right now, I find this to be a huge coincidence. Now I can't play ANY game until my new HSF gets here or my PC will exceed it's operating temps (73C).

Pretty big coincidence ... there's always a consequence for every good thing that happens ...

I'd post this under Tech Help, but I figure I'll be discarding the Stock HSF in a few days anyway.

I'm still happy to be getting a new CPU fan though.

-----------

The Fan I bought is good isn't it? I checked the reviews and it has 5 eggs with over 3.7K Ratings, must be pretty amazing. Maybe I'll even be able to overclock to 3.0 or 3.2 GHZ. I have Phenom II X3 720.

I live in Florida BTW :P When it gets cold here my temps Idled ~45C and loaded ~55C.

Lol, good timing. Might want to apply some new thermal compound to tide you over though.. Most likely the HS is just going bad though, worth a shot.

I'd try to redo the compound as well. Clean it - rubbing alcohol works nicely for the final work. Too much compound will insulate the CPU, doing exactly the opposite of what you want it to do. As will an air gap...

Of course make sure to keep yourself safe when putting in the new HS. I have a similar one like that HS & its been doing me real good (ive been able to oc my cpu to 3.0 ghz & have been very pleased with it) so im sure you will be please with as well. Make sure to do some tests before doing any kind of oc'ing tho.

Do you have Cool N Quiet enabled in the bios?

It makes no difference in speeds, but can bring idle temps down by 10-20c.
