I have seen this on Steam's boards.... and I am in the same boat. I tried to connect to steam, but Steam tells me I have no internet.

BULL!!!!!

I was playing earlier this afternoon, but shut my computer down to eat dinner. I noticed Windows had "updates" (faildates?) ready to install.... and those updates are now preventing me from getting onto Steam.

So you are not alone... I will give Steam a day or so to fix this before I uninstall those "oh-so-important" SECURITY updates... this is all Billy Gates' fault!

I'm Sorry about windows...... Did you try simple things like restarting the computer? Or maybe start steam in offline mode? (I don't know if that works for you, never works for me) Or try running the game directly from the shortcut?
 
Delete the clientregistry.blob in the Steam folder.


I had the same problem 10 minutes ago.

This is 100% correct. The Windows Security updates can actually be VERY important. They release them for a reason. They aren't just crapware. Plus since steam only runs on windows, blaming windows doesn't really make any sense.

Steam actually has quite few other big issues they really need to get around the fixing. Things that have existed for years. Like crappy IE, and chat window sound issues. There are also many other issues, and even a few exploits (not major security exploits just annoying).

Steam is definitely to blame here. Don't blame microsoft for trying to protect you. Try installing your OS and never updating, and there tends to be some big issues. Especially in older XP (Go to your grandparents house, and look at their older computer that hasn't been updated in years), and I'm sure Vista, and 7 will be that way soon enough if you don't keep up to date with security.

Then some might say, "Well then maybe you shouldn't get crappy windows!"

MacOS would be the same way if it had the popularity of windows. Virus, and spyware manufacturers, and hackers aren't going to develop their stuff for an OS if they don't get maximum profit from it. Windows is lucky they can keep up.

Still not as bad as what happened to my brothers computer...network driver for windows 7 caused a complete failure...needless to say the city of Pittsburgh was never the same.

+1. I was going to go into the same rant, but I was tired. I agree with you 100%. Security updates are vitally important.
