that is how my stock sound card looks. with the audio line-out, line-in, and mic jacks. SoundMAX Digital Audio is the type of sound card i believe.

my question is since the mic jack(pink) stopped working is there a way to use the line-in(blue) for my mic or do i need a new sound card?

i know some sound cards have only line that you can switch but i cant seem to switch it so i dont think it is possible with this sound card.

If its a self standing sound card then you must find a way to use the blue instead and depending on the card it made be a programing issue that could stand in your way.

You most likely will not be able to use the output for the input, line-in jacks are usually for powered equipment, which your microphone isn't. I'd suggest either getting a new sound card or buying a USB microphone.

thats what i was thinking. i know the mic jack send power to the mic and the line-in just takes something that is already powered.

thanks guys.

Well, I'm not sure if its a desktop, or a laptop, but here are some options.

If its a desktop, either use the onboard audio (assuming it has onboard audio) or get a USB Mic. If its a laptop, get a USB.
