My Father in 1943

I would like to share a couple of pictures of my Father from 1943.

The first is late 1942 / early 1943 training with a Bren light machine gun in New Brunswick, Canada.

The second was taken while at Bassingbourn airfield in England in mid 1943 prior to deployment to Italy. My father is in the front row right. My avatar is that of the insignia of the Lorne Scots, the regiment he was part of. My father was 22 yrs old at the time.

We allways look at WWII in a certain way un-personal way 'cuz we have seen to many cheesy war movies or played to much Dod, so it's allways nice and eye opening to put faces on the war.

My grandfather was a SS Major and on the other side my other Grandfather was a Finnish SS volunteer and his rank was Captain.

One of my great grandfathers was a Navy pilot, the other was a medic at Anzio, and I have an uncle who was at Normandie and another at Guadalcanal.
