Computer broken Help!!

Alrite so this is what happened, i was vacuuming my computer cuz it was really dusty and all so i turned it off to vacuum. Then when i was done, i turned it back on but nothing would pop up on my monitor. The computer would turn on and everything, the lights coming on and everything, fans spinning but no video......is it possible that something went wrong when i was vacuuming and now i get no video on my monitor???
I even rebooted my mobo by taking out the mobo battery for like 12 mins and then putting it back in but nothing........arggg

Is it possible my GPU is messed up and im gonna need to replace it but i don't know wats broken in my computer, it could honestly be anything but im feeling that the GPU is the main reason because im getting no video on my monitor

Im gonna try swapping the GPU out and putting in and old old one to see if its the problem.

anyone got any ideas??

Edit: nvm can't use my old GPU, its an AGP slot xD dammit......

PewPew if you used a normal vacuum that was your problem to being with. It creates static electricity which harms are computer hardware. Sound like you messed up GPU or the mobo itself. Only vacuum you use for a PC is a specialized static free vacuums but those start around 200+ bucks. I would suggest trying out a different GPU is possible to make sure its not just the video. If that doesnt work sounds like you messed up the motherboard itself.

Edit: When I clean my tower out. I unplug the cable. Press the button on the PC to let go of any remaining power or static electricity int he PSU or capacitors.

I tear the whole thing apart and use a microfiber cloth and compressed air to clean the components. On the case and plastics with no electronic boards or PCB I use 90 percent proof rubbing alcohol so it dries up super fast. I use that on my fins for the fans.

I also ground myself the whole time. With an anti static wrist strap or if you do not have one you can just rub your hands on the metal case to eliminate as much static electricity as possible.

Hope that kind of gives you an idea how someone else might clean out their PC of dust

omg HOLY ***** i did not know that at all...........freakkkkk, i used a Dyson vacuum, the one with the big orange ball to make maneuvering easier.

Dammit, thanks for the info.....i think the mobo is fine but that would suck if its messed up.....this is not good tho :facewall:

The only good thing coming out of this would be being able to buy a new Video card and possibly motherboard but the bad thing is spending the money and telling my parents and also not being able to use my gaming computer for the big Winter Rumble tournament next saturday which me and my team were hoping to win -.-
 
Sorry to hear that about the tourney. Oh man plus it being a Dyson yea that sucker did something. Those things are powerful. It might not just be those two components. I would test each and every part on a spare or friends computer that is compatible but I think its just the GPU since you say everything is on. Does it make any beeps? If so it is an indicator your RAM went bad too or the slots. Like I said test every part on a spare or friends computer to find out what exactly needs replacing.

yea.........ill try to find some spare components, and im gonna attach the speaker thing to my mobo to hear beeps, i didn't bother putting it on but ill do it to see if it beeps more than once or anything.

When i had it on my older case, the mobo beeped everytime i turned it on but if something was wrong it beeped more than once. Ill probably need to find out the codes of how many beeps and all that.

Yea there is a green light on my mobo that shows power is going through it and all that, my PSU turns on fine because its powering the fans and all that, my vid also seems to turn on because i see a light that quickly flashes everytimes u turn it on but it could still be the problem, my hard drive turns on becuase i can feel it spinning and all that so i have a feeling it might just be a problem with the video on the GPU.

thanks man ill try to find out the real cause of it and hopefully its only the video card so i can just order a better one and get it quickly before the tourney. If not ill have to deal with playing on a macbook pro.....probably just use the screen and attach my keyboard and mouse to it so i can game normally
 
Have you tried the simple things?
  • Re-plug in your video card
  • Re-plug in the power connectors going to it
Also, does the GPU fan spin up or just the CPU fan?

nvm fixed......wasn't a problem with the GPU, problem with RAM -.-

Apparantly my super talent ram is dead or something cuz it doesn't boot into windows.....my G. Skill be working though
 
wow nvm........everything is working now, weird....when i tested with 6gb of ram before it wouldn't get into windows and now it does, strange

thanks for your help guys, everything seems to be working nice and smoothly....but now i need to do my mobo settings and overclocks all over again....get my CPU back up to 3.6ghz

While this is what many believe, you can actually just use a normal vacuum -- you just need to be careful and not allow parts of the actual vacuum to come in contact with the internal hardware in your computer.

I've built my own gaming rig for years now, and always clean it with a regular vacuum (one that's not anti-static). I just be sure to wear an anti-static wrist strap and put both hands on the metal parts of my PC tower before I start cleaning. Everything's runs great, as always -- even after cleaning out the dust.

Yep, exactly. Always be sure to ground yourself (from static electricity) by doing the above.

Run Memtest just to make sure your RAM is doing ok. Its free.
 
so not ever do that again man, speacial anti static grounded vaccuums are needed for pc's, a can or air wold work nicly tho!
 
Break into your local community college and use their computers. That's what I do. :P
 
I have cleaned my rig once a month for the past 7 months since i got it normally blowing as much dust out and vacuuming without touching anything important, keeping myself grounded at all times, using a regular vacuum . Never had a problem. I have cleaned many machines in the past using the same method with no problems.

Do it at your own risk...
