Strange Steam Server Connection Error

Howdy all.

Never encountered this before. With almost every steam game I seem unable to join a server. My internet works fine, in L4D2 I can jump into a lobby, and start to connect to a server.

After loading completes, I then get a "Lost Connection to Server" error. If I exit L4D2 and hop back in, I can sometimes get into one server, but if I leave that one and jump into another the same thing happens.

Alternatively, I jump onto instead of loading into the game after loading is compelete, I'm immediately sent back to lobby where it appears that everyone else actually on the server is with me too, but I'm all by myself there.

I suspect it may be because of the Goldeneye Source mod that I installed, as I think it used L4D2 for it's base...but I don't know anything about modding so that may be wildly inaccurate.

I've tried uninstalling the program, but with no success. Any thoughts?

Could it be anything with your home internet connection? It could possibly be that. Or depending on when this started for you, it could have been the steam maintenance from last night.

What type/class of firewall are you using? Also, what OS are you using?

If you are using 3rd-party firewalls (non-windows), I'd start snooping around there.

You may also use the online tech support (link in support staff's sigs) option. We can remotely connect to your machine and snoop around that way if you desire.

Also, Dead Tom's idea about Steam's update is valid. Try updating your Steam client.

I hope you find this helpful! If there's anything else you need, feel free to ask!

OK i just got off another forum with a player with similar problem. It just seems to be that Steam servers were down yesterday and since it worked before with the mods enabled then thats the only thing i can think of.
