Well i just got my GTX 275 yesterday, and on crysis wars my FPS keeps dipping under 30 on all high no AA. My first thought is the CPU..... Q6600 @ 2.4..... I ran OCCT 2 days ago and my max temp on full load was a 54, and the average on full load was around 49. I want to get my CPU up to 2.8 any help?

Overclocking for the first time can be a bit scary. Add me on Steam and I can help you out of you want (tamaman258).

Unless you have a good HS/Fan (not stock) I wouldn't attempt to OC. Especially since it's for gaming. If you do have a good HS/Fan, then it's worth a try.

I have a Q6600 @ 3.4Ghz. If you need any help, feel free to PM me on the forums or ADD me on Steam.

My Q6600 is @ 3.6ghz but i can get higher if i wanted, just keeping it at the sweetspot which is 3.6 cuz of temps. Im getting like 60 load max @ 3.6ghz

With a stock fan 2.8 should be achieved pretty easily, especially if you have G0. You can probably get to 2.8 without raising the voltages or if u do, very very little. If u go to 2.8 i would say your max load would be high 50's or low 60's which is fine.

If you wanna get to where like i am @ 3.6 your definitely gonna need a really good HSF, i remember going to like 3.2ghz on a stock HSF when i had my Q6600 before i bought an aftermarket one, my temps were like mid 60's which isn't too bad.

I've got the 750i SLI FTW mobo with a Q6600 G0 and OCing is pretty simple. I have it at 3.0GHz @ 24 idle. I could easily OC it more but never got around to it.

The Q6600 is a good CPU to OC.

I'm running a Q6600 OC'd via BIOS to 3.6GHz with a non-stock heatsink/fan and it runs comfortably at just under 50 degrees

LinX is probably the best program to stress test.

I have a 680i.

I had to drop my Multi to 8x to get a stable OC and loosen up my ram rimings from 4-4-3-7 to 4-4-4-4

I can do 3.0 GHz stable with no changes to the voltage on a G0. I'm not saying that you can, just that it can be done :P. Also if you're running your chip overclocked with temps 50C-60C you are going to be cutting down on the life of the CPU. Just so you know, overclocking is not all pros, it has cons as well.

Well, by the time your CPU dies, it'd probably be outdated already. This also depends on how much you OC as well. How long are CPUs supposed to last again? I think it was 15 years or so. OC'd, it'd probably bring it down to 8-10 years depending on the OC.

I don't think its your proccesor, just thats how crysis is :/ Try dropping to just high instead of very high? and make sure vsync is off, and your drivers are updated (obvious)

I have the same proccessor at stock and didn't drop below 30 fps in crysis wars though...

Crysis is just...fail, I'd hate to think you spent $200 just to play that.

Anywho, since you've never overclocked before, you should shoot for 2.8-3.2 jiggahertz.

Oh, and what brand 650i?

XFX, Asus, etc.

Yeah... Crysis is just weird, Crysis Wars probably runs worse than the singleplayer.. Crysis Wars is the worst optimized, just don't worry about it since not a lot of people play the multiplayer, and it's really not that fun. With that system you should be able to destroy any other game. Crysis works on a lot of systems, but fails on others it shouldn't (warhead anyway)

Crysis Warhead was even worse optimized than Crysis was.. had to use console commands to fix graphics issues that actually saved me fps, and Crysis Wars came with Warhead...

I worked backwards when I OC'd my Q6600. I set the voltage to the highest I was comfortable with, then got to the speed I wanted, then toned down the voltage as much as possible.

Well yeah, that's one way to do it, but seeing how it's his first time we don't want him over doing it. So starting low, then working his way up is a good way to find the sweet spot.

Yeah on the smallest map in MP i get 20-26 fps on medium...

Dell :0

I want to try for 2.8 first.

I nowhere near bought it for crysis, Just bad company 2 :) PREPARE FOR SOME HUGE TANK BATTLES!!!

Dell motherboard = no overclocking...I think.

Sorry to bring you the bad news :(

But, it might be possible. Just check your bios and see if any features are for overclocking.
