Hey all,
So... recently I've noticed something that is a little bit disturbing (at least to me). On our servers, it seems like sometimes the members of eGO (including myself at times) don't realize when we've crossed the line between joking around, and actually offending somebody.
For example, on our highschool server, one of our members was asking about my name (The Angry Arab). Now I want to state that my name was a nickname from high school. I'm persian, so my friends thought it would be funny to call me Arab, and when i told them it offended persian people to be called Arabic, they started calling me the angry arab. Anyhoo... somebody was asking me "do persian people wear towels around their head, or is it just arabic people?" Now that question is a little offensive as is, but i figured he was joking. When I told him that Persians do as well, he said "Whatever, I don't watch National Geographic so I don't know these things." This person definitely crossed the line right there, and when I told him so he didn't apologize.
Also... when somebody asks you to stop saying a phrase of some sort, whatever it is, do them a favor and stop saying it. I won't get into specifics on this, but there was a phrase being repeated at least 10 times PER ROUND last night, and when asked to stop saying it (because it was making a lot of people angry) the people that were saying this continued to. About 10 minutes later over half the people on the server left.
As I said before, i'm sure that at some point I have crossed a line and made somebody upset at some point, but when somebody brought it to my attention I made sure to stop whatever it was I was doing. Please, for the sake of keeping our servers "punk free," when somebody asks you to stop, just be respectful and stop.
