For ease of personal modifications, I will be reposting the information here.

METAL CREATION
Metal is used to fabricate new items

Smelt Primary Weapons
3 Primary Weapons = 1 Scrap Metal
Smelt Secondary Weapons
3 Secondary Weapons = 1 Scrap Metal
Smelt Melee Weapons
3 Melee Weapons = 1 Scrap Metal
Smelt Class Weapons
1 Primary Weapon + 1 Secondary Weapon + 1 Melee Weapon (Or equivalent) = 1 Scrap Metal

METAL UPGRADES
Combine Scrap Metal

Better Forms of Metal
3 Scrap Metal = 1 Reclaimed Metal
Combine Reclaimed Metal
3 Reclaimed Metal = 1 Refined metal

TOKENS
Used in addition to metal to make class and slot specific items

Fabricate Slot Token
4 Weapons for one Slot (Head, Misc) = One Slot Token
Fabricate Class Token
4 Weapons Used by the Same Class = 1 Class Token

HEADGEAR
To make you a gentlemanne

Fabricate Class Headgear
4 Refined Metal + 1 Class Token = 1 Class Headgear
Fabricate Headgear
3 Refined Metal = 1 Headgear
Rebuild Headgear
2 Hats of any type (Haven't tried the Gibus) = 1 Random Hat

WEAPONS
For killing!

Fabricate Class Weapons
1 Class Token + 1 Slot Token + 1 Scrap Metal = 1 Class Weapon (Ex: 1 Pyro Token + 1 Secondary Slot Token + 1 Scrap Metal = Flaregun)

I am sad. I have about 6 of each weapon for each class. So I either turn it into scrap metal, and have to new weapons for that class. Or let them all just sit there and not get a hat. (I still have no random pickup hats, how sad.) I'm also disappointed that it will take me 30 items to build my hat.

*I can't do algebra in my head. I take that number back, its 85 weapons including the token to build up a class specific hat.

**This explains why I barely passed my calc. class. Its 112 weapons total. I thought it was 3 refined metals, not 4 for a class specific hat.

Well, at least it's better than the Diablo II method. With the TF2 method you have a chance of crafting the high level stuff. Zod rune from D2? yeah right. No way in heck could you make one of those without playing D2 for many, many years =)

I'm just bummed i removed a bunch of duplicate stuff a few months ago from my inventory.

Im going for a spy hat (hoping for fedora) but since i just pulled my 1st random drop hat (camera beard) im sure Ill get that when I craft, lol

Haha, how long have you been playing TF2? I want some sort of hope for my random drop. Now that I can control my own hat destiny, I'm not sure which hats I want to gamble 85 weapons for.

Camera Beard has something weird going on with it and seems to be dropping at an alarming rate. We saw four in Black Mesa in the course of 15 seconds.

Woot crafting success I used 2 of my 3 jarate headbands and got a bonk Energy drink helm :D

Well since its not longer a hat, maybe its a common drop similar to that of the weapons?

I just traded my 2 sniper's panama's hats (yes I had 2 of the same hat) into a master's yellow belt :D
Awesome trade IMO.

I saw more drops today than the entire time playing up till now.

but still no hats. I has scouts shine (non hat) and two spy beards (both from today)

I just got my first hat ever today! Got the yellow belt thing for the sniper! (I dont really play sniper, but I dont care!)

To paraphrase another poster on another topic:
"This is my new favorite math thread!"
I could not stop laughing at 1) your math problems (I have them too) and 2) Criminy, how many things does it take to make a hat for crying out loud?!

:facewall:

Btw Talara is Wintermute in eGO, dont know if he is still in eGO but theres a fact ;)

So, if you already have hats, you can merge hats for the chance of a different hat. That's OK, I guess. Then again, considering that I have exactly 2 hats from random drops (The Cheater's Lament and the Heavy's Officer's Cap) that sounds less useful than you'd expect.

My random item drops were bugged last night as well, as you can ask anyone on Turbine. I kept "getting" the KGB and Dead Ringer, after every death. Except my item count did not increase; it just spammed chat to let us know I had those two items. As everyone else was getting their wild dreams for items fulfilled, I can only assume my glitched items were keeping me from anything cool...

...until I got the Direct Hit, 20 minutes before lights out. 112 weapons to get a hat is ridiculous unless they're going to drop a weapon every other death. And they've gotta be duplicate weapons. It's concievable that (back of the napkin calculation here), at 22 items, you could end up having to collect 45 items before you got lucky enough to craft scrap metal...

...assuming you have the necessary blueprint to craft scrap metal...

...and then you need 3 of those to craft refined metal...

...and hope you have class and item tokens, or else craft those expensively for metal...

...it's crazy!

And yet they STILL haven't implemented trading!

It seems to me that trading would be (1) more effective, (2) simpler, and (3) forge friendships in the community better than grinding for scrap metal.
