Getting new computer.

The main thing to remember with memory prices is what the manufacturers are making. DDR2 was very cheap not too long ago because it was the primary memory type being manufactured. Now more manufacturers are switching their primary production over to ddr3, and not producing as much ddr2, causing ddr3's prices to fall while ddr2's rise. You may recall the same thing happening when ddr took the market from pc-133. PC-133 became horrendously expensive while ddr cost very little.

I would recommend you go for the ddr3 if you want to have upgrade ability in the future. It probably will take a few years before you can't find any ddr2 at decent prices, but ddr3 will likely continue to drop in price until a new standard comes around.

So they're the same price. I haven't done my research on OCZ RAM but I would assume that the DDR3 has a crappy IC on it.

Also looking at the timings and CAS latencty:

The DDR2 800, 5-5-5-15
CAS time is 6.25 ns

The DDR3 1066, 7-7-7-16
CAS time is 6.57 ns

So the DDR2 is better for gaming (although not by much). And an AM3 only mobo with DDR3 will most likely cost more.

alrite im just saying that its better buy w/e
I would have recommended DDR2 like 2 months ago but not anymore

Ok, a little more research on my part and I'm sold that DDR3 is more bang for you buck now.

Damn, I hate being wrong. :P

I now would suggest this mobo and RAM instead of the previous ones.

Also, if you can afford it, jump to the quad 955. More games will be using quad in the coming year, and given the price difference, I think it's worth it to go quad now on new builds.

@ OP
Also, if your really on a budget go AMD athlon II x4, you'll get very similar performance and they run much cooler. (much, much cheaper)
