Need Laptop Suggestions

Would have to go with Pew on this.

About a few months ago I picked up a Gateway and so far Love it.

Specs:
Processor: Intel? Core2 Duo Processor P8700 2.53GHz
Display: 17"
Memory: 4096MB DDR3 Dual-Channel 1066MHz
Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M
Hard Drive: 500GB
Battery: 9-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery

I picked mine up for about $1100 on sale.
Been happy ever since.

First of dont buy acer hands down some of the worst computers on the market today. Lenovo is great I have one of those and love it and recomend that. Sony has a great line and if you want the apple look without the apple price go with one of theres. Alienware is just like apple where you pay a premium for brand name and looks sometimes you can find comparable prices but its usually in the higher budget range.

I dont know if you have a desktop for gaming but if you do netbooks are another option. Do keep in mind that your probably going to want a keyboard/mouse and possibly a monitor when its docked and not traveling with you because of the smaller screen and keyboard. Asus and the Dell Minis are 2 of the more popular brands but almost everyone has their own line now.

Not really looking for a gaming laptop. More or less just a general use laptop. One that can do gaming on the side but its not really a deciding factor for me.

this is because you spent $350 on a laptop, that is very little money, and in the world of PCs you DO get what you pay for, i spent $800 and the build quality is rock solid

Yes i spent $350 on a notebook two years ago, im sure we all have heard of sales n such... This is not the only Toshiba my family has owned and OVER TIME they just start to feel loose n clunky.

Not to mention i have spent several more hundred other Toshiba's and i just get the same feel. My 1 year old ASUS feels like new still to this very day as im typing on it and it wasn't 8 or 9 hundred bucks. I use this thing nonstop everyday and beat the crap outta of it. You do get what you pay for, true in most situations.

I pretty much live on notebooks besides my wrecking machine at home . Been through HP, Toshiba, ASUS , Gateway, IBM , and a few others as this is all we use within our company. I have paid big money on higher end Toshibas, used to love em like no other, not anymore. BUT THATS JUST ME . I'm just giving input on a question asked by a member on this forum as all you did.

Like pewpew said , Gateway and Asus both make very affordable gaming notebooks if thats what your looking for . Gateway has the 17", ASUS has an awesome 15.6" around $1000.

Yea yea Oprah, Reflex already reminded me that when you get a good deal on something , it must be a piece of junk.

If im not mistaken, Acer and eMachines are the same company , or sister companies at that. DO NOT BUY !

When you made your original post you only said "i bought a $350 Toshiba" and that i felt junky, you never said that you had others that were the same way and were more money. Also we never said all good deals are a piece of junk my computer as you can see below is not a peice of junk and I bought it for $800 less than apple was selling it, the Same with my mac pro. I have gotten $250 watches for $30 and they were also good quality, but in the computer world when you buy a computer that is $350 (and some laptops do see regularly for that much) it ushally will be well, crappy the same with tvs you buy one of those knock off brands they will only last maybe 2 years maximum. I have never had a Toshiba so I had no idea of how they "felt" the only suggestion that I had that they were crappy was your post.

Might want to stay focused on solving the problem and not just discussing satellite issues that revolve around it (without answering his original question).

I've had a Thinkpad r50e; worked great for nearly 4 years until the motherboard died. However, I would still recommend the Lenovo Thinkpads because of the positive experience I've had, despite the mobo dying.

Last week, I just read a laptop review over 2 asus laptops, both getting very high scores:

Asus UL80VT Laptop - About $800-900, depending on who you buy it from, and what accessories you add/remove. This is a do-it-all laptop; great battery life with the ability to play games on the side. I think this is the laptop you would want to buy if you can afford it

Asus G51J - About $1400-1500. This is a midrange gaming laptop with a great buy/performance ability. You get a lot of bang for the buck in this system.

Here's a review of both systems:

You can't go wrong with a Gateway FX laptop. Not so pricey, very gamer friendly, and have had very few complaints. I bought the first model that was released and I've had mine for just about 2 years and I've had no troubles.

So my HP laptop finally kicked the bucket last night after giving me nothing but trouble for the past 2 years. Was working on it and the power cut off and wouldnt turn back on and started to smell a pungent smoke from the fans of the laptop which is a bad sign. So i ll be in the market looking for a new a laptop and was wondering what brands you guys would recommend or have had good long lasting working with? I m not buying from HP ever again their laptops seem to run incredibly hot and the battery life degrades very quickly (my laptop was only getting 20 min on its high cap battery) . Not to mention HP's service is just awful. So my only two things to consider when suggesting laptops is...

1) I will not buy from HP again

and

2) I will not buy from Apple (overpriced and MacOS sucks)

other than that let me know what laptop brands have been good and what models or brands you would recommend.

This is where we need to start over from everyone . Hi, im dbee and would recommend an ASUS notebook based on your original post Boo-Yeah . Your getting all kinds of different answers and opinions and it must be drivin you up the wall. Take a look at some online reviews , should be very helpful. Good luck and Good buying Bro !
