ok on donner when 3 or more people talk i sometimes lag up and get disconnected. The message says buffer overload in net message, can someone help or how can i fix it.

ok. ::sigh:: - fine-

I will just admit it.

You Finally got me.

I have no Idea what this is - or how to remotely go about solving it. I did some searching and can only find two other cases of this message - in counter strike source - and none have fixes. I didnt see anything usefull on the steam forums either.

Are you posative that it is exactly, and only when multiple people are talking over voice chat - and not for some other reason?

I think I would submit a steam support ticket for this and see what valve says. What sound card are you using, and what are your other basic specs. Including OS. Perhaps a new driver will allow more channels? hmmm... i dont like this one bit.

well I remember someone, saying in another thread that aim was causing some problems for them. If you are using the latets versin of AIM then shame on you all. It's terrible.

But anyways, using a different program or switching to aim version 5.9 may or may not solve this problem. It will at least definately solve the problem of aim sucking.

Isn't there something that sound cards can only handle x amount of audio channels at once. If I assume you don't have a sound card that means you CPU is handling all your audio needs, in that case too many people talking while the game is running could overflow your sound buffer, and maybe lead to that error message

yes Kahless, soundcards / audio chips weather they be on a seperate sound card, or directly on the motherboard can only produce / calculate a cirtain number of channels at one time. However, Even onboard sound can produce more than three channels. Not to mention that when three people are talking it is not actually creating 3 seperate channels. It is liekly that HL microphone is one channel. if lots of people are tlaking then the voice patturns are combined before output. Although - it is just as likely i made that up.

Are you using Vista by any chance? There was a thing in vista where sound would actually cause network traffice to decrease. If you have Vista then make sure you get all your windows updates and update your sound drivers. If you have a soundcard then go to their website. If you use onboard sound then go tot he motherboard website and search for updated software.

Ive had this happen to me tho sometimes its 3 or 10 people just depends, its not necessarily your connection cause im on a 56k and it varies time to time

so yeah its a wierd one to figure out, try valves forums they might have something on it
