I know its not that big of a budget, but I have a $200 budget and am getting a new mobo and ram, and have $25 left. I am most likely getting a gift card or cash, so I could go maybe 5-10 over budget, but that is it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

make sure when you take the internal measurement that you remember about a side panel fan, if you have one

yea, I know, but the side fan is out of the way from where the CPU fan would go.
I'll still measure, anyway.
But how much clearance should I have?

I have atleast 4 inches of clearance from my side panel fan to my cpu fan... but the idea is to have enough as to not obstruct the flow of air >.>

what case/cpu fan do you have?

case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156060
hs/f: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...18223&cm_re=zalman_cpu-_-35-118-223-_-Product

Stays at a relatively cool 78 degrees :) considering i keep my house hot and i have 5 hard drives, 2 dvd drives, one rear fan, one forward fan and one side fan... psu is 550w thermaltake.. good intake/output on it as well...

Its a tight fit into a mid tower.. that zalman.. but like i said ihave alteast 4 inches.. not that it completely matters since the hs/f is vertical

78 degrees... Celsius? If so, that is TERRIBLE. I get better than that with my stock hs/f
But if its in Fahrenheit, that is relatively good. That about what I get on my stock hs/f, though.

it isn't always about what cpu cooler you have, but about your case cooling as well. i have my cpu overclocked to 3.7ghz with stock cooler and it doesn't get over 55/56 c when running prime95 for full heat test
if you are a little limited on space you can still find good coolers, but some take like 5 1/2 inches of room for 120mm cooling fans, 92mm cooling fans will run like 4 1/2 inches tall or so

I was just looking at the first one, but I was wondering if it could fit in my case.
The review that you posted on some other thread said that it was 6.2 inches tall, and I just measured my case (from the outside, I'll measure the inside probably tomorrow) and its 8 inches.

in the review from the other tread they praise it b/c it is much smaller than most other modern tower coolers

The Hyper 212 Plus is one of the smaller air coolers we?ve tested recently?a big relief after last month?s monstrous Scythe Mugen 2. At 4.7 inches wide, 3.1 inches deep, and 6.2 inches high, the Hyper 212 is shorter than our champion, Thermalright?s U120, though it?s about an inch deeper. It?s also about a pound lighter, at 1.4 pounds to the Thermalright?s 2-plus pounds.

+1

Also, room temperature plays a huge role as well. Especially if you have a few intake fans.

Does no one remember the thread I started a while back?
Anyways, my computer idles around 6-12C and load from 25-30C on stock air.

What temperature is your room at? It must be freezing in there!

Haha yea, it gets pretty cold. A few weeks ago it was 16 degrees. Fahrenheit. Or, to put it in comparison, -8C. But I'd say its about 5-10C on average. It's really cold here in the Northwest.

of course its F.. lol 78 in C would be stupid.

just curious, why would you buy a product where the shipping cost is higher than the product cost. just go to a local store and get it, or use the preapplied

Okay, does anyone have any suggestions for a HSF that is under 5.5" tall and that is under $30?
Any recommendations would be appreciated, and benchmarks to support them would be even better.
