Fallout 3: GOTY Edition - Worth It?

So, at long last, the Fallout 3 GOTY edition has finally made it onto steam.

I have Fallout 3, but none of the expansion packs.

Is it worth it to re-purchase Fallout 3 to get all of the expansion DLC's for $49.99?

Just curious, do the DLC's pick up after the end of the game, can you embark on them any time, or is it quest specific (talk to certain NPC's to get the quest added to your map?)

Operation: Anchorage - Enter a military simulation and fight in the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders.

The Pitt - Travel to the post-apocalyptic remains of Pittsburgh and become embroiled in a conflict between slaves and their Raider masters.

Broken Steel - Increase your level cap to 30, and finish the fight against the Enclave remnants alongside Liberty Prime.

Point Lookout - Embark on a mysterious and open-ended adventure in a huge, murky swampland along the coast of Maryland.

Mothership Zeta - Defy hostile alien abductors and fight your way off of the alien mothership, orbiting miles above the Capital Wasteland.

Same question here, but I don't own Fallout 3 right now. Should I buy it? Is it worth buying?
 
I didn't enjoy the game, think I got to level 7 or so before I gave up, but in my view, I hate getting non-steam games. Feels nice to have a collection of games in one place.

I forget the price of the DLC, but if I remember correctly they were all above $10. I think even $20 or more some of them were. It seems like a good idea to purchase it on steam instead of the DLC's individually. It's also in the top 10 sellers so it must be a good deal.

If you want the DLC and own the game already, it seems the prices of the DLC would go over $49.99, so it seems a good idea to purchase it on anyway and give the extra copy to a friend.


Edit: According to Newegg.com, the price of Fallout 3: Anchorage & Pitt Expansion PC Game Bethesda - Retail and Fallout 3 Broken Steel / Point Lookout PC Game Bethesda - Retail would total yo 39.98 USD.

Edit x2: you can also get the boxed edition for $45 USD. Free Shipping. GOTY Edition too. No Steam activation though.

I would say if you already have Fallout 3 don re purchase it to get the Expansions. Just buy them separately, but only the good ones which is all of them except the pitt. I never played mothership Zeta so i dont know about that one. I didnt like the pitt and the new armor and weapons that you get from the pitt arnt even that cool. But for those that dont have Fallout 3, then the GOTY addition is absolutely worth it at a steal for 49.99

Im pretty sure you cant gift the game for a friend if you purchase it for youself. You would have to purchase it as a gift but if you do, then you cant play it. So you would be stuck with 2 copies.

Oo, seems I misread the post. I thought he had the boxed copy and wanted to get it on steam.

no you're right: I have a boxed (store-bought) version, and I never bothered to purchase any of the DLC's for it.

Now that the GOTY edition is on steam, I was thinking about re-buying it - thanks
 
Don't think twice, buy it now, I bought all the dlc as it came only for the 10 bucks a peice, I enjoyed each one immensely. Also the dlc is available right after you get out of the vault, I just don't reccomend you head to point lookout until level 30 with a stealth suit.
 
You also can't use the Broken Steel DLC until you finish the main game but that's only because it takes off where the main quest ended.

All the other DLC is available at any time.

Buy it today while the Steam Holiday Sale is on so you can get it for $37.49 instead of $49.99. You'd be spending $10 a piece buying the DLC seperately for a total of $50. It's a great deal.
 
game is a definite buy it is very good if you like rpgs and its a steal i had to buy all the dlc's outside game so this is most definitely worth it
 
I would recommend it. They're all good DLC, including the pitt, who said it was bad? Silenced scoped machine guns!
Anyway, it's on sale, so you may as well get it. Plus you can play on steam without the disc.
 
I was in the opposite situation. I bought it off Steam and the expansions at the store (though I downloaded Mothership Zeta.......in Spanish). It really gives you some good gear and perks. I think the best way to go is to get to about lvl 6, go to Operation Anchorage, the Stealth armor makes the game so much easier, then the Pitt, Mothership Zeta, and Point Lookout and Broken Steel. Make sure you have the stealth armor with you at all times and on a quick inventory. The enemies in the expansion don't notice when their allies die right in front of them if you use a melee weapon while stealthed.
