I've had this wierd lag with L4D2, it's totally random and it's like your computer would crash but it won't. It just lags for about 1-15 secs and then stops... I tried to record a video about this lag, but don't know yet if I can show you anything from it. :/

I've tried to reinstall L4D2, OS, Lowered graphic settings, tried multicore rendering on, replaced CPU's fan because it overheated... None of those helped....

It's really frustrating because anyone who has played L4D2 Or L4D knows that 15 secs unable to do anything, is REALLY BAD.... Poor little Sissi needs your help! :crying:

could be bad server

could be some other program trying to take more resources to do something.. like anti-virus stuff or something?

Ok try to see if your graphic cards cool. It could be FPS lag you are experiencing.

Yeah. I checked couple sites for that card and it has pretty high temperatures.

Just to ask this, does the same thing happen while you play single player campaigns too? Or only online.

If you have installed CCC (Catalyst Control Center) you should be able to turn up the fan speed manually, if you have that ATI cooler. (As seen on pic)

That should be the problem. When the HD 4870 reaches about 90 degrees (celcius) it starts doing funny things to your computer.

If you can't control the fan speed even though you have a cooler like the one above or a familiar one, you should update the gpu driver.

Not sure if you've got the 512MB version or the 1GB version, but I've got the 1GB and looks just like the one on the pic.

Btw, IDLE temp is 38-41 degrees celcius with the fan speed @ 31%.

Also, my other GPU looks like this, but the IDLE temp is slightly lower than the one posted above.
Makes more noise though..

Ok, I solved the problem! All I had to do is to put "cl_forcepreload 1" to autoexec.cfg. It forces game to load everything when map is loading, so it won't in the middle of the game.

Thanks for the help anyways! :)

thats weird.....i dont have to change any files or anything/mess with any config stuff at all to get L4D2 to run fine.....i have a 4850 OC'd to 4870 speeds pretty much running and aftermarket cooler and im getting some great FPS

Well, atleast u fixed it with ur solution

mmmm i can't wait to pick up a 5970/5950 when the price is right, no more upgrading for a while :)
