OC'ing results

Just noticed this thread, so I thought I'd post my results

Phenom II X4 965BE (125w)

Currently have it at 3.8Ghz 24/7 stable at 1.4v. The OC is simply using the multiplier (19x currently) so it's nothing big. I'll start tweaking the Northbridge and HT settings shortly.

Nice, I want my CPU to hit 3.8, but I don't know if it can

If the PSU doesn't work, OCing would be impossible... as would anything else.

If a PSU can't handle the power required to run an Overclock, the system will randomly shut down. That's how you know it doesn't work.
 
AMD Phenom II X2 (stock 3.1GHz)

OC= 3.5GHz stable, i can hit 3.8, but if i play games for more than 2 hours at 3.8 it will crash.


(this is all on stock air cooling)

i think im finding this out myself - when i play far cry 2 for over a few hours it starts to get pretty laggy and the GPU usage drops, leading me to believe the CPU is pretty much screwing up or not being as stable as i thought at 3.7 ghz, so im going to drop it to 3.6 and see if it continues.
it definitely isn't a heat problem tho, so at least i know im not doing damage to the processor
 
mine will just randomly restart, which leads me to belive its a heat problem, i want to get a Corsair H50 so maybe i can hit 4ghz

Alright. I built my system, and didn't know I had a defective PSU.
My video card was artifacting at stock, and I wasn't able to OC my i7 even .1ghz.

I ordered a new PSU today, so hopefully I can get some success.

Is your PSU the one you have in your sig?
Might I suggest a Corsair or OCZ?

That was the defective one lol.

The PSU I ordered yesterday was a Corsair 750w.

yea was probably your problem, not getting enough power to your components....the corsair is nice, im person running a 1000w Tuniq Ripper because it was at a price i couldn't pass up, $80 for a 1000w after rebate?!?!? had to get it :) it retails for like $170 i think, it did at least when i got it

I would have gotten a corsair tho if there wasn't this deal on the Tuniq which is great IMHO especially for the price and the reviews it has gotten
 
My PSU comes today. Do you think it'd be okay to try n' OC now? Or should I wait for my GTX 260 to come back from RMA? Right now I have a completely fossil card. I mean it's from 1997 kinda old.
 
It was artifacting at stock settings. Minor artifacting lead to display drivers going not responding (or something like that). I contacted XFX and they told me to RMA it.

Come to find out my PSU was bad, which might've lead to the artifacting / errors. My PSU comes today, but XFX just received my video card yesterday.

My monitor should get here any minute now, the anxiety is killing me :facewall:
 
I just overclocked my AMD phenom 8650 x3 from 2.3Ghz to 2.6GHz. My temps idle are around 40-45C, running prime95 max load my temps are between 55 and 60C. I have a cheap heatsink that i got at bestbuy for $15. My RAM is slightly underclocked from 800Mhz to 755Mhz. Are these temps ok and do you guys think i could overclock more? http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=916664
 
temps are fine. you can always overclock further until it either isn't stable or temps are dangerous. the only things that will heavily affect the temps is by raising the voltage to the cpu which allows a higher stable overclock.
so basically you'll keep those temps if you keep overclocking, as long as it remains stable
 
for that cpu the max temp is 70c - so keep it at like 60 max. i'd say with prime95 full cpu temp stress you can score up to 65, since it will otherwise never reach that temp with normal operation
 
Ok thanks. Ive overclocked a little more to 2.7Ghz and it seems to be stable, ill probably keep it here and not raise it anymore. When I look at Cpuid HW monitor to look at my temps it shows the cpu temps the gpu temps, the system temps and the AUX temps. What is the AUX temps? Is it the temp of the RAM or something that is not important?
