Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade.

Hey eGO. I just got Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade for Christmas and I have some important questions I need answered. :cursing::facewall::chair:

I'm sure (correct me if I'm wrong) that you need to deactivate your previous windows key in order to activate your new Windows 7 key. So this is my issue. I'm MIGHT be building a new computer sometime around late January for my birthday and I was wondering if I can upgrade my vista home prem to w7 home prem NOW with my current computer, then when I build my new computer, use my same hdd, and do a clean reinstall of windows 7 so that I can install all my new drivers without the hassle of uninstalling everything right down to the core and then install all my new stuff. Is it possible to install windows 7 more than once to the same computer with the upgrade version like for example if my stuff crashes and I NEED to reinstall windows for whatever reason.

I will love you guys forever if you help me out with this.

Not quite sure that I understand your question in the 1st place. You say that you have Vista Home Premium & want to upgrade it to Win 7 Home Premium, then when you upgrade your computer, you want to do another full installation of Win 7 again? No offense, but you would already be able to do that, no matter what. As long as you backup any necessary files on your end somewhere else, youll be good to go. I seriously doubt youll have to worry bout crashes @ all, esp w/ Win 7. Ive hears such great things bout the OS. In fact I had 1 of the eGO guys order me a copy & will more than likely install it on my moms comp (her upgrade was her big christmas gift from me).

My question is that since it's the "upgrade" I was kinda worried that I can only upgrade it once and then not be able to do a clean installation afterwards just in case if I want to for whatever reason. Get me? Thanks for the reply pillar.

The upgrade version is a full copy to which you can do a clean install..

The difference between the upgrade copy and full installation copy is that if you want to do a completely clean install (on a new hard drive) you need to have another version of windows handy to prove "you're upgrading"....

So you may need your old vista disc when installing your new rig.

On the other note. You can install windows as many times as you want on the same pc, it's your license.

When you transfer your hdd's to the new computer you don't HAVE to delete everything.. unless you really want to.. I haven't completely wipe these hard drives in 2 years, used em on 2 diff computers.

If, however you do decide to wipe them entirely you will have to install Vista first then install the upgrade to Win7 otherwise it won't work because it will think you are trying to get away with paying less for Win7 lol

My upgrade key didnt even work I had to use the Cd key that came on the back of my computer for vista and that one worked fine.
