Steam Not Detecting GTA IV

Well, I can successfully play GTA IV on Steam now but just one major-ish problem that my friends & I have been having. When you launch GTA IV from Steam, the RockStar Social Club window appears with a "PLAY" button. Steam detects that window as the game itself & therefore changes your status from normal to "Now Playing GTA IV." However, once you click the "PLAY" button to launch the game, Steam thinks that you just exited the game because the RockStar Social Club window has closed for the game itself to launch. Which means that Steam changes your current status from "Now Playing GTA IV" to normal. It's not too much of a big deal but a couple of my friends & I have this problem & it's just annoying when you have to talk to each other via Messages in Windows Live. I have disabled RockStar Social Club & it will no longer run when I turn on my PC. However, I haven't tested it out to see if it'll work, though. Once I'm in-game, I can play just fine but whenever a group event starts or posts an announcement, the game completely minimizes & the even/announcement pops up & then I either have to maximize the game again or it got lagged really bad & I had to terminate the game & restart it. Very annoying. Anyone else having this issue?
Note: This is the Steam version of GTA IV.

Check the steam forums for information on conflicts with Windows Live and then got to the Rockstar Tech support. What OS are your running currently?
