For Christmas this year I received a $1000 budget from my Dad so that we could build the best gaming PC that we can together. I was wondering if my eGO friends could give me some advice on what parts to buy, where to buy them from, and what is the best deal I can get. I won't have a problem with the building process, I just need your guys' help with getting the best parts that I can for as low of a price as possible.

Parts I need

1. Case (A see-through or clear case would be cool)

2. Motherboard (I need a really high-end motherboard with PCI and PCI-Express slots)

3. System RAM (I was hoping I could get at least 4GB)

4. Hard Drive (500GB or more)

5. Video Card (I need the BEST possible video card I can find for hopefully under $300-$400)

6. Sound Card (Not nearly as important as the video card, but I still want a decent one)

The other parts that I need I'm going to take from my old PC.

If you guys could please post your thoughts, advice, and recommendations on where to buy it from and what part to buy, it would be much appreciated.

Links would help a lot!

Thanks in advance,

I agree, the Hard drive you picked is much better. I was just trying to keep it under $1000, and believe it or not hitachi may not be one of the most name brands, but i have a 320 GB one in my laptop and it works amazingly well. Though going with the Western Digital one would probably be better.

yes, not to mention that tidus has yet to reply with additional information as to what he has to build upon. once we get more info from him, then we will be able to help make better decisions for him 2 help him stay within this $1000 budget.

i would go with a 790gx/fx mobo with SB750 for better overclocking capabilities, but it would be around the same price, other than that i think that build would work out great
the 5850 is an amazing card too, you can easily overclock it past 5870 numbers and gain such crazy graphic experience. best performance per dollar right now if you ask me, even while it is still higher in price

Hey everyone,

Sorry for the late reply. I posted this thread right before I left for a snowboard trip. Thanks to everyone, especially dudethatrocks.

But the video card that dudethatrocks posted seems like it's no longer available. So I looked around and found this 5850 for the same price. Let me know what you guys think.

And Junk, I was hoping that I could use ATI and AMD. My friend told me that those run best together.

Thanks again!

ya i prefer ati/amd myself - even though there are a handful of games that heavily favour nvidia for graphics

That 5850 video card is so powerful, the only game you really have to worry about graphical performance is crysis. As far as i can see, the 5850 is slightly more powerful than the 4890 which is by itself an extremely powerful graphics card. ( i have a 4890 btw)
The processor itself is not the top of the line gaming processor but it is still quite powerful and with a nice new 3rd party heatsink you should be able to overclock it and get excellent performance.

Try to get Nvidia its really good :) And if you turn on the 3d thing to Force Off, you get some nice FPS.

5850 is much better than 4890 actually, not that a 4890 is bad but the 5850 beats a GTX 285 and the 4890 matches up against a GTX 275

the processor....i would try to go for a phenom II x4 940 or something around that, they overclock nicely and offer great performance, might be out of ur budget tho, you can probably tone down some of the other things to get it tho
