Well, here's the deal. I got a new computer for my Christmas. It's awsome, I love it. Graphics however, are not the best.

Tesco Website with specs

Now. I got L4D2 and all that jazz for my Christmas as well. It runs at ~15fps on the lowest settings, with a high-fps config as well See Here it's not unplayable, but I'd enjoy something better. Team Fortress 2 gets about 20 - 30fps and it struggles on the lowest settings (this is with dx 8.1)

I run win7 64bit, use Avast Antivirus and ad-aware, could any of these be sapping my resources?

The Graphics Card is the nvidia 6150se should it be able to do better?

I am also wondering if getting a new graphics card such as the nvidia 9500gt it's a reasonable price, would improve my situation, and if everything would work together, and fit together etc without any problems.
(My Price range is ~?40 - 50)

Thanks for any help

40-50 euros is how much? I can tell you right now you won't get much.

You're better off sticking that out for a few weeks and add to that fund. I'd rather suffer a week or two, get a better card and enjoy it longer; as opposed to getting a cheap on and suffer for a long time.

double your pounds and you should be getting a good graphics card (or is it Euro's now?). The worst thing you can do is cheap out on a graphics card for a gaming system. I could still be using my Radeon 1950xt if I wasn't compelled to be near the frontlines of home computing POWA

On another note: try turning avast and ad-aware off and see if you get better fps, you could even be scientific about it and try turning each one off individually then both off and catalog the fps range you got on each try. :D

Bump! I'd love any ways to increase my fps even more without buying a graphics card, and I'm looking for some recommendations on good, cheapish, graphics cards.

so ya you'll definitely want a graphics card especially if you are playing newer/higher end games like l4d2 and tf2 (still pretty demanding). you'll most likely want 120-150 dollars for that, so what 75-90 euros or whatever (too lazy to actually look it up)

Dont get the 9500GT. Yes your video card is the problem its weak....Very weak. in your price range i recommend a Ati 4670 you can get one off newegg for under $80 and its very good, ur not gonna play Crysis at 5787x4894 res very high but it'll def max those games
