Well, I do video editing, web sites, parties, and school work. I have 8,000+ songs on my macbook and hours upon hours of Hd video, and 10s of hours on my 2.5tb mac pro. so...yeah

harddrives are very user defined. i only need max of like 160 but minimum of 80gb. im currently using 69.3gb but don't have all of my games installed. i do not store any music, videos or anything like that so ya...its all user defined.

Storage space is not the only reason to buy a larger hard drive. Larger drives usually use higher platter densities, which lead to higher transfer rates, lower seek times and improved reliability.

Premium drives also usually come with 32MB caches which improve burst transfers and again may improve reliability. The real world performance benefits are debatable.

Warranty is also a factor, with drives like the Caviar Black coming with a 5 year vs a 3 or even 1 for lower end drives.


Might be something to keep in mind as an extra $20 can make a big difference in boot times and application/game load times.

ya but you don't need to get 500gb/1tb to be considered a higher end HDD. to get the best of the best even with lower storage space you can mostly just grab up a name brand.
i think myself personally since i don't need high storage space it makes it easier to make the leap to SSD too.
but yes i do see what you're saying...and it isn't even much more of an expense really..you can easily get 500 gb drives for 50 bucks, good ones too

Um.. just a question. If you don't know what some parts do and all, are you sure you can manage to put together the computer yourself?
