Hey all,

What are your opinions on the NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250?

its a good budget card, however the 5750 does outperform it in every way as well as allows you dx11. they mostly run around the same prices, unless you find a cheaper version of the 250. so if your budget is about 150 before tax/delivery than i would go with a 5750, but if you want to squeeze every dollar than try to find a cheap or on sale or MIR with the 250.

but right now the xfx 5750 is on for 139.99 with free shipping at newegg.com

Its ok if you can get it for less than $100

it is a rebadged 9800GTX+ so it is almost 3 generations behind

i would get a 5750 as it preforms better and uses less power

I have the video card mentioned above, I just wanted everyones opinions on whether it's a good video card or If I should upgrade.

It's still a great card, but if you have the money to upgrade, then it wouldn't hurt.

Actually The GTS 250 is slighty faster then the 5750 in some games. biggest difference is 5750 is newer and has dx11. 5750 is better for long term

actually it only has the advantage in games that are extremely nvidia based and biased, but that is the case for every nvidia vs ati showcase in those instances.
otherwise the 5750 will out perform the 250 as well as has a higher overclockability and of course dx11

the GTS 250 is a fine card, i just wouldn't buy one unless it was like $90

GTS 250 is a fine card, but it won't last much longer before it needs to be upgraded.

Currently, I'm using the game "Shattered Horizon" as the benchmark for current cards, meaning if your video card can run that game well, it will do great on virtually any game. I have a 9800 GTX+ which is virtually identical to the GTS 250, and as of right now, the 9800 GTX+ doesn't run Shattered Horizon very well. My resolution has to be turned way down and the details set to medium to medium-low. I thought upgrading my processor to a Quad Core might help, but it did very little to help with the playability of the game. However, newer cards, like the GTX 260 and newer ATI cards seem to have no problem playing this game. My fiance's HD 4870 512mb seems to run this game very well, and it's only about 30% faster overall.

Honestly, if you can manage it, I would get something more powerful. Otherwise, it will tie you over.

I say keep it until it doesn't play the games that you want to play at the settings you prefer. If you have some money and want to upgrade your computer, post all of your components and your budget and we'll help you pick out something that will maximize your investment.

get an ATI 5 series........5750/5770

GTS 250 is as people have said, a rebadged 9800GTX+ and it isn't worth wasting ur money on

Well, I've had it since Semptember. All settings are maxed on every game and it runs every game perfectly. If it starts to get bad, then I'll contact my computer provider (since it's under warranty for three years and they'll have to provide me a brand new video card).

Since you already have it Just keep it unless u wanna upgrade it. But it seems its doing fine for the moment playing games perfectly. Only upgrade if you want to but if its still maxing games i see no reason unless there more reasons

Exactly.

I see no reason to upgrade just yet, seeing how even a 9800gt can run just about everything maxed, and a GTS 250 is slightly better.

God could you be more of a fanboi :P

my bad....thought he wanted to buy

Well if your GTS 250 is running all your games fine, i don't see why you need to upgrade
Its all personal preference and your choice

I want better performance right now so im planning on getting a 5970 when they start rolling into stock and become cheaper as well as non-reference ones come out

Average graphic card i'd say, but don't know it it's better than my two 4870.

Prolly not if it's a overclocked 9800 GTX+
