How can I make Left 4 Dead 2 load faster?

Ok, I may be putting this in the wrong sub forum and I apologize if I am.

Basically, I want L4D2 to load into games faster, as I am tired of always playing Survivor first, just so I can get 100% playtime as infected (loading the same, just played map, always loads quicker).

My rig:

Processor:
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)

Memory:
1022MB RAM

Hard Drive:
80 GB

Video Card:
Radeon X1950 Pro

Two problems that I noticed.

1: your processor is on the slower end of the spectrum (and it's not dual core. It has hyper-threading. Completely different)

2: You only have 1GB of ram. If you have Windows XP, you need to have 2GB's of ram. If you have Vista or Windows 7, you need to have at least 3GB's, while 4 is recommended.

Your only real option that I can see is to upgrade your ram. Otherwise, you're going to have to get a new computer.

get an Solid state drive, more ram, faster proc, those are the only things i can think of

At 80gbs you can definitaly get a SSD to replace it...that while expensive, for a drive of that size perfect for you. Also adding more ram is a quick way to speed application start up time.

Really, your computers harddrive is not the problem here. Your talking about connecting to a game, all your speccs are reallllly old. It looks like a time to get a brand new computer, that slow loading is your CPU/GPU rendering the level.. and they're very very slow compared to todays specs.

Normally i'd just suggest a new cpu or video card, but with this comp you really can't change one without having to do a complete overhaul.

Your best bet is to make your self a new comp from 600-800$ and you'll be loading l4d2 a million times faster, and everything will look 100x better.

ya you need an upgrade. in processor (meaning motherboard too) and ram and graphics (meaning probably PSU too) so you definitely need an upgrade or just new computer as a whole.
but yes more ram, faster cpu and faster harddrive will speed up the process

More RAM(and faster, if possible) will be the cheapest most beneficial way to speed up load times. If you tell us what motherboard you have, we can tell you how much and what speed RAM you should get.

Another less cost effective way to speed up loading times is to get an SSD. While being very expensive, it can speed loading times up A LOT. Unsure about how much the rest of your specs will bottleneck it, if at all.

Your processor is getting quite dated. You'll be due for a complete overhaul soon, if not already.

Oh, I'm due for a new PC but no $$$. Ahh well. Thank you for the info everyone! :)
