DVD drive question and something else

I found out my DVD burner is coming on 11/26 while my whole computer comes tomorrow (11/20). Can I use a drive from a old eMachines I bought back in 2005?

Also, how the hell do I open the case for a old eMachines computer? I bought it in 2005. I tried opening it but the case is like...the side panels are all connected to the front. Any ideas?
 
Most of the time it should work, I had an old DVD player from an old 98' I had put into my computer a while back and it worked fine ;) and for the case, the from probably is snapped into place, it might just pop out, then the side will come out, but some are different than others
 
armed: unless $ is a problem always shoot for newer stuff. the leap in technology over the past 4 years in PC parts dwarfs the previous 5. But yea. it should be good 2 go
 
Yeah the case should pop out from one side or another, look for any kinda of screws on the back or underneath that you could take out.
 
I don't see any reason why the drive shouldn't work and... it's an e-machine, just break it open. Are you really going to miss it?
 
If you post the model number then we can help you more but there are many cases that open in different ways. Dell for example open like a clam shell when you push the top and bottom buttons (newer dells), and many older computers have the top and both side pannels attached and they all come off together in one piece.

Flavor - you may want to read his post before responding, he said that he did order a new DVD drive, but that it isnt shiped untill a week after everyhting else he was just looking for somehting to use for that week. Also, it is correct that old parts can dwarf or bottleneck a PC, however an older dvd drive will not make the computer slower :p

Exactly like that. The only thing I can notice holding the case together is these really small nail-like things that have a hole in the middle. I don't think I have anything in the toolbox that can take that out.
