I've been playing tf2 since it was first released, now this is no thread to talk about my horrible skills since then (must you elude me perfect stairstab?!?!) this is more thoughts, and a look back. I want to hear your thoughts and opinions on this subject, prepare for a tiny wall of text, reason of thread in bold on bottom of wall :P

I wanted to talk about how Tf2 has changed since then. Looking back, I enjoyed the basic weapons, the small amount of maps, and the hectic battles that always ensued on 2fort, I do miss those days, now much has happened, both good and bad, that has changed how we play. We are left wanting more for each class, giving us fun new items that bring us back, but turn others away, hats that feel like the best thing in the world to achieve and obtain, but draw others away from the impossibility of obtaining one or the mocking of not having one. New tactics that have been created to best others in the field of battle. Other reasons are out there, any you can think of post em!

In my honest opinion if given the chance to change things I think I would go back to the beginning. Everything about Tf2 when it released was fresh and new, really, no other fps truly had "teamwork based" play on this sort of scale, this game revolved only on that, with the very interesting graphics, created an experience like no other. Nowadays I don't feel as much teamwork is used, due to new weapons that feel overpowered, achievement farming, and general disregard for how teams stand, too much has happened to bring back the magic it had when it first came out.

I want to hear your opinions people! No matter how long or short! Would you keep it the way it is? What would YOU change about Tf2 now?

unlocks killed it
esp the last ones
people who have played TF2 before medic update, know how it rocked!

here is how I sum up the game at this point and where it looks like it's going:

CHEESY OVERPOWEREDNESS OF DOOM!!!!!

seems to be every update now introduces some OP'd new weapon for each class that causes the game to not be fun for abit. Eventually every class will have some new OP'd weapon and it will even out......I guess.

If I could change anything I would remove 2 things:

The spy: they will never be able to fix the registration errors of the backstab, so just remove the class and replace it with a crying baby that drops 50hp health packs for poop.

The Huntsman: not much I need to say about this hitbox broken king of cheese weapon.

these are my opinions ofcourse, so feel free to send me a pm to flame me for this and keep it out of this thread. :)

Haha, I'm not going to flame you, but removing the spy would remove me from existence, and we can't have that :P, although replacing the class with the crying baby will definitely help not make people rage more.

I liked playing tf2 with nocrits in competition... Those were the days.

qq is a slang term for "Your so right, I concur with your comment"

I love the idea of no crits also, let the crit uber be the only way for crits imo.

I see, well, learning something new every day.

I think we should have no crit matches in the fun server (since there is too much debate about having an actual server with no crits) like in eG vs eGO would have no crits for example.

QQ is for geeks too lazy to draw a picture of crying eyes, and too cool to type "cry more"

:)

Best way I can describe TF2 is by this comparison.

Original TF2 (2 years ago) was like seeing Star Wars (Ep. IV) before any upgrades or additional special effects were added. TF2 now is like Ep. IV that was released on DVD. (Han shot first, no revisionist history allowed!)

I keep asking myself, how do these changes make TF2 better? (same questions I asked myself after seeing the hacked up version of Star Wars :crying: :facewall: )

There are some pretty neat aspects of updated weapons, but in hindsight, I think the original TF2 was pretty dang good (outside of the bugs). Classes were balanced, Crits were random, and each class brought specific advantages to the team. The updates have blurred everything too much (Heavies can be medics, medics can regulate crits, pyros are like snipers, etc)

Just my opinion of course, but i would make it the way it was pre-medic update =)

Erase everything valve did starting from after the medic update, the medic update was important and he got some good weapons to support the team and himself.

After that, honestly.... every update I thought it just cant be any worse.. but valve suprises me every time, valve is intentionally killing any kind of skill, making more airlauching weapons, making more critical weapons, almost in every update there is a crit weapon, in the pyro, there is the backburner and the axe, in the heavy, there is the kgb, in the demoman it is the shieldcharge, in the soldier it is the buffbanner and the pickaxe which honestly never not killed me instantly, in the spy, there is the ambassador, in the sniper well.... it was jarate and huntsman basicly gives crits no matter where you shoot, I been shot in the knee and it still counts as a headshot.... valve is running out of ideas, so they just make more crit weapons to make it even easier to kill in a very easy game.

The only good thing is that they lowered the random crit rate, which I am very thankful for.

If it wasn't for the updates I'd still be playing the 360 version :scared:. Six maps get awfully boring after a year, that's why I rarely play on the original maps except for 2fort.

Agreed, with the medic update the medic was able to support himself in a battle without having someone to heal, that was definitely important.

-Groo, Nice comparison lol

perhaps some of us should get together and work on extracting all the game content, reworking it into a new mod called "TF2 Classic"

no upgrades of any kind, just stock weapons and maps. :)

Splendid idea! Now if I only knew how to do all these things lol, I have troubles even putting on mods >.>

+1 Beaver ^.^

Although I probably wouldn't play it because I think some of the new weapons do server their purpose and are not OP at all, for instance, the Flare Gun, its a great weapon if you know how to use it, but the shotgun is also extremely useful. Anyway, I think that Valve should make the update after the engie update "The Balancing Update" where they simply balance things lol. They make one update, wait a week for community feedback, make another update, more community feedback, and so on and so forth four or five times, then it would hopefully end up fairly balanced. Anyway, I think of facestabs as the spy's version of Random Crits, I mean you get facestabbed and you die, sure its unfair, but is the same spy getting killed by a scout in one shot due to random crits because the scout is randomly spychecking any fair either? No, not really, except the scout can do it at range whereas the spy has to be point blank. The main cause of facestabs (I think, this is just a theory on my part) is the 'lagging' hit boxes in TF2, the hitboxes actually lag slightly behind your character while moving. This is how heavies and snipers can kill you after you run behind walls and corners (ones with decent ping that is), and if you are running backwards facing the spy and he stabs, your back's hit box may actually be hit by the spy. They couldn't really fix this that well without breaking a couple other game mechanics IMO.

Anyway, if we had a no crits server I would play there a ton lol.

I think the biggest thing is that prior to medic update, there seemed (and this might just be perception) that teamwork just came more naturally. Seems like TF2 is slowly degrading into just a normal every man for himself death match.

I don't know if I'd blame Valve, but...the player base I guess?

As the game grows in population, you're going to lose some of the core gameplay values because not everyone's going to play the same way. I convinced my roommate to get the game and I can see night and day the differences between our playstyles. Most folks are probably like me, who log in to have some fun, goof off, and relieve some stress. Others really get into the competitive side of TF2. Whatever the case may be, we're getting more numbers of many different kinds of players and Valve can't hope to...
A) Cater to everyone
B) Expect the core gameplay to remain unaffected.

I think we're in for something like Kevimaster said. When everyone's been updated, they'll work on tweaking the balance issues once the scope of everything is in place.

Engineer update will make the Engineer the most powerful class in the game. Unless he gets suck-ish weapons. I mean, what could possibly be more powerful than a 99.9% crit wrench? I'll tell you, a 100% crit THROWING WRENCH. What could possibly be more powerful than a Level 3 Sentry? A Level 3 ROBOT Sentry. What could be more useful than a spam Pistol? A spam LASER Pistol. It all makes sense. Each update makes the class more powerful. Until valve does about 27 updates and decides to do a final, 28th, BALANCE update. Which basically makes it like the good ol' days. But with tactical combinations. That was Valve's idea, I know it. Valve wanted each class to have many tactical combinations, so that a person who knew how they could be used, could USE them to their advantage. It is a term I call Expert Advantage, (EA), and I do approve of what Valve is working toward. Many useless things, such as Hats, make the game that bit more cool to the world, and a Veteran Player can have some kind of thing he can hold on to that not all the noobs can get in one day. Their plan is coming out wonderfully.
