tom's hardware has got an extremely in depth article on the release of the new AMD Phenom CPU's.

But unfortunately, it looks like the Core 2's still take the cake in all out performance. On the bright side, AMD now offers the most affordable 4-core CPU in the Phenom 9500.

Do you mean to say that you dont think AMD will ever beat Intell again? because for the past 10 years AMD has been making better chips that also cost less. For gaming anyways,...
AMD has traditionally performed better at most games, while Intell has performed better at photoshop and the like.

I find it unfair that for the first time in nearly a decade Intell has made a processor worth buying and all of a sudden nobody thinks AMD will catch up. The same was said about Intell 3 years ago when their processors sucked, the cost way too much, used too much power, put off too much heat, their stock was falling, and AMD was begining to sell more processors than them.

The only reason intell was arround was because they were a brand name - so people thought they were awsome. My customers ask me all the time,... "What do you mean my celleron isnt the best? its made by Intell" Companies like Intell and Dell capitolize on the fact that their target consumer base has no idea about their product. "What do you mean that a 2.8GHz P4 processor can be slower than a 2.4GHz P4 processor? Cant you see that the number is larger?" <--- sorry people but clock speed is only like 20% of what makes a processor fast, what about the other 80%?

Performance insrease - yes, the Core2 undeniably is friggen awsome and adds much needed design technology into the field. HOWEVER, My opinion is that it has set us back as a consumer base (of course i'm not talking about us reading this) - but just on the eve of consumers becomming educated about how important architecture is not clock speed, and how Intell doesnt have the fastets chips just because they have a name that appears on TV - Blam, Core2 comes out, and all the people about to be woken up to the truth are now sedated into "Intell is winning they have always been the best"

I guess, if i had to make it into one sentance - I dont think its fair that Intell will remain seen in a posative light for another 10 years just because they finally made one good product, despite all the other bad ones they push to consumers and all the bad designs from the past - While AMD has been making better processors every time for 10 years and finally lose a battle and get no credit whatsoever; AMD, doesnt, and never has lowered themselves to sell a processor design as crappy as the Celleron just to make a buck like Intell does, they actually believe in making good products for good people, not figureing out ways to trick them into handing over their cash for steamy piles of cow pie.

[/rant] (and that was total one sentance .... notice the semicolon... I neevr said the sentance would be proper)

you make a really good point greenmonkey. I've always been a loyal AMD fan when it comes to getting a pc rigged for gaming. My very first pc I went for had intel and it sucked. I switched over to AMD, and have never looked back on my last two pcs I've made. I running a dual AMD64-FX60 Dual core 2.66 processor(and though I bought it over a year and a half ago it still rocks.

I like both AMD and Intel, although I do perfer Intel over AMD, as intel has *4* processors in one, thats really good compared to only 2 in AMD.
