Building a rig!

Hm, yeah, I'll have to look into more OCZ RAM. the i7 860 is 1156, and I think I should go with the 1366 i7 920.

Hm, thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into all of these.

Case: I use the HAF932. I also really like this case: Corsair 800D

CPU: The i7 920 is a great processor.

CPU Cooling: I use a CoolerMaster v8. Keeps my AMD Phenom IIx4 945 at ~26C idle (~35C load), the 125w edition (versus the 95w).

Motherboard: The Asus P6T seems to be the favorite motherboard of many. I personally prefer MSI. Pick your poison. :P

RAM: G.Skill or Corsair, I also wouldn't suggest OCZ their RAM gives me nightmares. Pain in the butt to set up correctly in the BIOS it comes set to 1066 and you have to get the timings and voltages right to get it at 1600 I was a frequent in their forum trying to figure it all out.

PSU: I recommend this bad boy. ThermalTake BlackWidow

HDD: I prefer Western Digital over all HDD companies. I have a 10 year old 32GB ATA drive from WD that still works.

GPU: ATI runs hotter than Nividia. Each has its perks. I like the GTS250 in SLI others would disagree. The ATI 5800 series is also a really good choice. You could also get away with the 5770 in CrossFire.

Optical Drive: Lite-On is my company of choice.

Sound Card: Creative SoundBlaster FTW. AVOID RealTek their sound cards have issues.

Wireless Card: Not much choice from what I was looking at. Rosewill was the only name I recognized.

I would dissagree
the 5770 produces less heat than the GTS 250 due to its 40nm process vs the 250's 55nm process

**sorry for double post:facewall:**

I think that 1156 is a better socket, because it is the "mainstream" socket of the two

while the 1366 is the "enthusiast" Socket

If i was Intel i would support the socket with more users (1156 as there are more mainstream users than there are "enthusiasts")

Thus the 860 is the match for skt 1156

Cant really compare the heats due to the size of the processor. Check benchmarks.
The GTS 250 and ATI 5770 run about the same temp wise. (both relatively cool).
On average ATI cards tend to run hotter than Nvidia is what i was getting at.
Temperature isnt an issue if you have good airflow and cooling.

What are other good air CPU HS+Fs? I'm nearly buying everything from newegg.ca and unfortunately, the Noctua NH-D14 isn't an option there. I don't want to buy everything from newegg.ca and separately order the HS from another website.

I also need some help. Right now, this is what I've got. I need to lower the price somehow but can't find where I should lower it.

Also, what is the difference between SATA and SATAII? Could I use a SATAII with this motherboard? It doesn't seem like it. Doesn't SATAII transfer at 6GB/s or so while SATA transfers at 3GB/s?

Get this PSU instead of the Corsair -- like $35 cheaper and ALMOST as high quality and power.

Check out this motherboard instead as well -- cheaper, and the only thing you're really missing out on is some overclocking potential -- it will still be able to reach 4.0Ghz.

You can use SATA 6.0Gb/s drives on that motherboard, however you wil only experience 3.0Gb/s transfer rates. This doesn't even matter on any hardware right now, and will only ever matter on SSD's. Don't worry about it.

Actually SATA1 is 1.5GB/s, SATAII is 3.0GB/s and the new SATA3 is 6.0GB/s.

Get a Corsair 750TX or 1000TX.

I want a modular PSU though. Also, which video card should I be getting. The point of looking for cheaper components is to allow more money to be spent into the GPU.
