It's only a proof of concept, but this is laptop with a clear OLED screen?but a stone's throw from those floating 3D displays of Avatar. Practical? Not necessarily. The future? OBVIOUSLY.

You see right through the 40% translucent screen, then something appears on the screen (like a white background), and you can't see through it anymore.

It looks hightech, but it seems less useful. I don't want to see through the screen when doing stuff.

So when its white, its opaque. When dark colors like black or brown or dark greens/blues/etc its translucent... doesnt seem to useful to me.

Indeed. I could see this being used in goggles/eyeglasses. Windows could have a screen in your car or the windows in your house.

The glasses/goggles idea is awesome. I could see the same in like iPods/iPhone.
The only problem I see with it on the laptop is privacy. You could just block the back, but that would defeat the purpose.

it why i think it is pointless there is olny disadvantages with it.


and who the hell would go to McD's for wifi if your going for wifi you might as well find a better environment to be in.

I think it has some merit. We already have see through panes in our lives, such as windows, that could be converted to something like this, to be a space saver. It could even be in a mirror, which personally I think would be awesome. Mirror and computer, I would have my bathroom in my computer room = unlimited gaming!

good idea.......the screen turns white opaque if you want to see things more clearly while blocking out the invisibility basically and other ppl cant see thru it from behind and such

definitely would be awesome idea for an eyepiece or something.....like soldier eyepiece or goggles and junk, would be sick........even for gaming it would be cool

I think the people who think this is dumb don't see the real application of this thing, if they got it into mass production someday you could probably just slap a white background onto your desktop with whatever image you wanted to make it seem solid. Of course whatever image you put in the center (like a biohazard sign) would be see though. Still cool as hell though and definitely is the fututre of computer screens just not labtops but desktops too. I'd give it 10-15 years before its common place.
