Pretty good so far, hopefully it stays stable..

i7 920 rated at 2.67ghz
currently at 3.6ghz

ambient 27c
idle (0%) 37c
low load (25%) 50c

Haven't tested upper loads yet because it's gonna scare me lol

Using NH-U12P (looks like D14 but the heatsink fins are connected not separated and two fans in push/pull on the outer sides

20x 180mhz
Stepping: 5
Revision: D0

DDR3 RAM Timings

Before: 8-8-8-20
Now: 9-9-9-24

run prime95 to see if the thing is stable......if its good for like 30 mins then keep overclocking BCLK

It might be on stock voltages.......i7 920 D0 can run 3.6 on stock i heard sometimes, probably not everyone though

To make sure it's completely stable, I'd recommend running Prime95 for at least 10 hours. Sometimes I run it for 24 hours.

Did you change the voltage?

Yeah, I think I raised it by .1V or .2V to be on the safe side.. I think it's at 1.22V right now. I'll probably try lowering it if Prime95 says I'm stable.

I'm gonna run Prime95 tonight while I'm at work, should give it a good 10 hours and if it hasn't crashed by the time I get home I might leave it on for another 6-7..

I just hope my fans can keep it cool.. I was hitting a max temp of 70C (18-24C ambient) at 100% sustained BEFORE touching any of the parameters.. I'm probably going to invest in watercooling once I get my tax returns. And if That works out I'll probably try to get past the 4.0 barrier..

I couldn't get the BLCK to 200 with an 18x ratio when I was trying to set it up, BIOS kept saying unstable lol. But I think with some more research I can get it to 4.2. I kinda cheated and let my BIOS make some of the other changes, all I really set was BCLK and ratio and had to lower the RAM volts because it was trying to overvolt my Corsairs by .3V

Decided to go ahead and run Prime95 for an hour while I was watching it to make sure it doesn't try to kill itself..

Ran the benchmark and beat the best timings listed on their website by less than half!

Torture Test: 41 tests completed in 1hr 18 minutes, 0 errors, 0 warnings

Temps (sustained @ 100%):
Ambient (control): 27C average
MoBo: 37-39C
CPU After 5min: 75C
CPU After 10min: 83-84C
CPU After 30min: 87C (held 87C until I stopped it)

Got through all the cpu tests 8k-16k and stopped after it started to repeat the loop.

Looks like it's time to invest in watercooling! lol

question? did you install the cpu cooler yourself? If so what thermal paste did you you and how did you apply it? You might be able to drop temps by reseating it and applying better thermal paste if you havent already.

the OC is nice though, id say drop it to as high as you can on stock voltage until you fix the cooling problem.

First of all, that initial post means zip to me - I don't have a clue. Second, I'm so afraid to overclock my computer and have it blow up in my face. :)

AS5

Removed the first coating because I had to RMA my $340 MoBo that was DOA, reapplied AS5.

Honestly I *MIGHT* have put too much on it, I haven't applied AS5 very much so I can't really judge how much is too much I just go for between nickel and dime size in the center.. lol

I'll drop the volts some and see if that helps, but honestly I think I'm just gonna wait for my tax return check and install watercooling lol

Try for grain of rice size next time...

i like to apply 2 small strips like |....|, i think thats a popular way to go but ya those temps seem extremely high for that voltage

whoa, thats a great article, makes me want to reseat my cooler

It depends on your Heatsink base also......theres a guide somewhere/post that shows different techniques of putting AS5 on different types of heatsink bases and such....really good guide.

There it is

Okay thanks guys! I guess I need to reseat this bad boi.. According to the benchmark it looks like junk's suggestion of 2 small strips is win. I probably should have done more research lawl.

I really don't want to take it apart again, I HATE cleaning old thermal off..

OH and my OC wasn't stable, well it might have been a little stable.. I left it on running F@H and I think it crashed because when I came back to it 7 hours later it had rebooted and was on the login screen..

Tried a new OC to 3.8 based off a stable build by another person with the same setup and it's nice but within the first 5 seconds of Prime95 I was at 80C.

I think I'm going to revert back to stock for a few days until I get around to reseating and then I might try my 3.6oc again after the paste has cured

That's a pretty nice guide! Make sure you read the guide on applying thermal paste that Pew Pew posted, it was very insightful!
