First off power:

Your motherboard probably takes the big 24 pin power connector. Look arround the left side of the processor socket - newer motherd usually also take a squar 4 pin connector, or a rectangular 4 pin molex connector (but this not always just most of the time). It depends on how top of the line the mothebroard is.
Uner stand that not every power supply connector will be used - and doesnt need to be. They are there incase you ened them. The 4pin molex connectors connect to video cards, hard drives and CD drives. Tiny flat black connectors are for SATA power. You onyl use what you need.

This can be tricky - and the motherboard book is NECESSARY.
There are 2 ways to plug in USB - either pin by pin, or as one block. the USB connector on your case / pannel determins this. It is hard to describe so all I can say is read the first 25 pages of the motherboard manual carefully. Gigabyte puts a motherboard drawing on the first 3 pages with lables - and also have indivudual component location pictures next to the explinations on each following page. Traditionally, USB connectors are near the botton or right edge of the board near the SATA and IDE connectors.
IEEE1394 is the same as USB - although this is only important if you bought a motherboard that actually has a 1394 connector on it. Most dont.
The Audio cables you speka of can be looked up the same way as USB but they will be located on the elft edge of the motherboard - sometimes between the PCI slots so you want to do this before putting in your add on cards.
As for the front pannel connectors - again, they will be in the motherboard book - and gigabyte usually also does a wonderufll job at labling the pins on the motherboard as well. It will be a row of pins about 8 long and 2 wide by the bottom right hand corner. You must both plus the wires into the correct two pins - but also in the correct orientation.
The motherboard book will tell you which pins are which - and which pins are the "plus" pins. GigaByte usually puts a plus at the base of the pins and also color codes them for simplicity. Anything with "SW" in them can not be oriented incorectly as the SW stands for switch and it either connects them pins or not (such as the power and reset SW pins) - however, there is no such thing as a 'HDD SW' I think you meant "HDD LED" because that goes tot he led light that flashes durring HDD activity. If it says HDD SW it is mislabled.
Look at the side of the connector without the writing on it. You will see an uncolored etching that has an "s" and or a triangle. That signifies the side or hole that needs to be pluged into the pin with the "plus".

If it makes anyone feel any better it took me about 10 hours to build my first computer.
Of course back then you had to manually adjust dip switches and set jumpers to set the clock and front buss speed correctly otherwise you would fry or underclock your processor. They ddint have this bios managed multiplier system on all motherboards. Not to mention the complete lack of motherboard labling so that people depended on tech stores and manufacturers. I dont remember there being cable select either but that was probably just my ignorance at the time. Everyone was a noob once : )
PS I also had to walk uphill in the snow both ways while building it.
