I recently noticed that firefox was using up a lot of my resources for some reason so I looked into it, I figured out that if you open a lot of tabs every single flash banner / advertisement takes up memory and processor cycles.

The solution is flashblock, it basically blocks all flash advertisements and if you want to open them you have to click on them.

here's the link for the plug-in http://flashblock.mozdev.org/

After I installed it my browsing has been a lot smoother.

also ther is adblockplus for firefox which blocks all add flash or images and that way flash that is actully part of the site like the video player in youtube will still work.

and opera has a content blocker built in you just got to update the urlfilter.ini file

Noscript is another awesome addon. By Default blocks all flash, java/jscript etc from running. To allow the site to use it you just right clikc and allow it. Works amazingly well.

Adblock Plus is the one I use.

Very nice for blocking just about all advertisements. Even ones on Youtube and Gamespot that play before the video starts.
