Building new Pc Question.

Hey guys,

I wanna upgrade my pc with new memory, motherboard and processor.
But i dont know if it all fit together.

ya all of that works togeather

the phoneme 2 are very little more than the athlone 2 and they are much better
 
:O that sucks. I dont have money for that:S. You sure 550 watt won't be enough?

And another question. If i get new CPU+motherboard, do i have to reinstall my OS then?
 
Better be on the safe side Black.. Nothing worse than unpure power and not enough of it,

And no you don't have to reinstall your OS.
 
Ok thanks. But isnt there something to check how much watt i total need?

And... what object in your pc make use of the power suply? The Cpu and the videocard i know.
Some led lights... but what else? Not the motherboard right?

Everything uses power from the psu. You would probably want something in the range of a 650 to 750W PSU
 
650 - 750? I only get a cpu with 35 Watt more.
And a beter motherboard. Does the motherboard uses sow much Watt then?

And I know a computer with Nvidea 9600GT 512MB videocard and a intel Q8200 Quad core 2.3Ghz, that pc has 350Wat.... sow are you sure I need 650 watt for a new motherboard and cpu?
 
a 550 watt will be fine with that setup, there are calculators out there you can fiddle around with and will allow you to input EVERY component you have, allowing you to see the minimum amount of wattage psu you will require
 
Yes, 550 will be enough for what you have.

Just keep in mind that should you want to later on get a better video card you may have to upgrade the PSU.
 
OK thanks. And i dont plan any over clocking. And i dont plan to buy a new videocard.

And JunK, how is that software called? I like to calculate the amount of watt i will need.

I'm currently on a 550 watt power supply myself upgrading from a 250 watt lol when I purchased my nvidia geforce 9800 gtx+


Friend of mine gave me advice.. he told me not to cheap out on the power supply (which I did) and currently I have no CD-rom drive due to a lack of power connectors so keep in mind any possible upgrades in the future sometimes its better to bump it up a notch the first time rather than spending more money second time around and having an old useless psu lying around. But you may get lucky and find a refurbished even or jsut a cheaper mroe pwoerful, power supply, If its not one of those flashy ones or anything and ofc always make sure its approved to prevent shorting etc...

i now have a question for you, is it bad to have a PSU that is to much for your machine?

like say my system only needs a 550w but i put a 1000w

And yes SSGT E a new power suply is a problem becaus i only have this one 6 months, and i dont have money for a new one now.
 
The motherboard DOES use power, to power everything like memory, northbridge, southbright, chipsets, etc.

550 wont be enough. Youll pull 85% of your power suplpy in all the time. Which doesnt sound bad but most power supplys run efficent up to 80% load, if you pull in close to 550 all the time your gonna need a new power supply from all the load. I say definitely save up alittle more and get a 650+ power supply.
