Hey, I just took about 2 hours of gameplay footage in TF2 and now I need to convert it and pick through it. Anyone know of a good, free proggy for it? I'd get FRAPS but that's not free and I am broke.

well source has its own recording...you can just use windows movie maker to edit it.
you can also convert it with the source recorder if you have the right codec, just download the uhh what was it...xvid codec i think then in console type startmovie name avi and pick the xvid codec then play your footage with playdemo name. it will go at like 2 fps and may take awhile depending on your computer but it is the easiest and best way to convert it. you may want to lower your resolution to the appropriate setting before converting it, or you could change that later either way.

Or you can play the demo and record it with xfire. Not sure if the quality will be better or worse than the idea above.

xfire has amazing quiality, but is a real resource hog. For source, using the source recorder and converting is the best bet for quality and perfomance, its just a little more complicated to use, but there are plenty of tutorials on it, but I don't have a link handy :(

Now I am sad. I just spent an hour and a half picking through one demo for all the good bits..and find out that my compression option was stupid. Each clip says '0 kb' and windows media gives an error when I try to play any of them. >.>

And Vdub says they are empty. :(

Fraps can be free by getting a pirated copy, but I'm sure it's against forum rules to post any links to such sites.
