Alrite.......so i7 920 was a bit too much out of my budget and would drain me dry so i decided to put together an epic P55 build for a lot less.

- Asus P7P55 WS Supercomputer motherboard (Has the NF200 chip so i can do x16/x16 SLI if i want, mainly why im getting it) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131594R

- G.Skill Ripjaws 4gb DDR3 1600 (This fits with the NH-D14 as stated in a compatibility list and this has a larger heatsink spreader also but it still fits) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277

-i7 860 for $250 after tax

Total = $618 after tax and shipping

Im happy with this price because im selling my old setup to a friend for $350 so i essentially only pay like $268 for this upgrade and have money left over :)

This build should compete with a i7 920 i believe since i7 860 is essentially the same with 8 threads etc.... its probably gonna be a bit slower clock for clock though compared to X58

This build looks nice?? the Asus motherboard is basically key in this build so you can do x16/x16 SLI or x16/x8/x8......i doubt you can do this with CFX configuration because it is only capable using the NF200 chip on the board so i doubt the ATI cards will be able to utilize it......i guess im gonna have to upgrade to Nvidia GT300 cards now :)

Im running low on cash so this build helps me out a lot more..........and it should be just as fast as an X58 with good GPU expandability because of the NF200 chip which allows 32 PCI-e lanes
 
You can do CFX. The N200 chip only gives more PCI-E lanes, as SLI and CFX is software controlled so the chip shouldn't affect the performance/feature. You'll get the full 16x 16x in CFX without a problem.
Personally I would get the X3440. It's a i7 at 2.5ghz but it retails for about $230. 95w of power so it runs pretty cool and overclocks nicely.

Yea sry if i wasn't clear......really bad wording

i meant to say like will the NF200 chip only supply 32 lanes to SLI or will CFX also get the benefit of 32 lanes??

and wat is an X3440??? the i7 860 im getting is only $230 before tax....picking it up from microcenter
 
Yes, CFX should get the full 32 lanes when they are used.
As for the x3440. It's a Xeon processor which is a fancy way of saying a normal CPU with a fancy name slapped on top for Server or Workstation users. $230 for the 860 is a steal though, so just forget I mentioned the 3440. :)

k.....yea hopefully 32 lanes works for CFX also, im gonna read up on it right now

Anyone know if open box comes with accessories and such or is it a 50% situation where you don't know.....on newegg, it says that it may include accessories and everything but on another part it says that open box is OEM only and doesn't include anything. very confusing

Open box USUALLY (meaning not always) comes with accesories.

The person who returned it may have forgot to return the warranty info sheet, or other minor stuff like that.

Actually, clock for clock, the 860 performs on par with or SLIGHTLY better than the 920 in everything that is CPU dependent, and in single graphics card systems(on chip PCIe lanes reduces latency). In memory intensive programs or multi-gpu setups, the 920 will perform better due to the third channel of DDR3 and more PCIe lanes(nf200 adds more lanes, but also more latency).
 
Its futurepoofing (sata 3 and usb 3), I don't mind the design, because i cant see it. Since you have the HAF i guess you can kinda see it. If you put a bunch of LED's in there maybe you could disguise it.

I have a AMD gigabyte board, and it has blue orange and other colors so it looks worse. but again, i cant see it.

As for compatibility proble.......solved the problem myself, their website has a whole list due to the size of the cooler, the EVGA 3x sli is fine according to it.

Personally i would choose gaudy colors over recertified-ness, but that is personal preference.

I have that ram and the noctua(i'm sure as you have seen me state)
It does fit, but the fan at the back(towards the front of your case) on the heatsink doesn't fit, you have to push it UP about 1cm to clear the ripjaws. The fan will TOTALLY cover your first ram slot, unless you have low profile ram, you will have to offset the fan

(doesn't really matter as i run at 31c idle and i'm i5 720 at 4000Mhz

Yeah i'd definitely go EVGA, ASUS, or MSI for a motherboard, preferably EVGA.
However, the i7 920 is the same price as the 860 at microcenter, i would definitely go 920 if that were the case go with this motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188046.
Your spending 40 bucks more on the mobo, and the same for the cpu for what will ultimately be better performance.

yup.......discussed about this in another thread i made. Am going X58 due to how close the prices are and am getting that mobo.
